Listed below are the most frequently asked questions. You can also find more information on the Help Center or you can email us your question.

  • What do I need to use TrainerRoad?

You can use TrainerRoad with three convenient setups: Speed Sensor + Trainer, Power Meter + Trainer, and Smart Trainer.

Use the equipment checker to see if TrainerRoad supports your devices.

  • What are ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart?

ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart (sometimes referred to as Bluetooth 4.0) are the wireless languages TrainerRoad uses to send and receive data back and forth between your devices. Many devices are compatible with both ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart.

  • Do I need a head unit (cycling computer) to use TrainerRoad?

Nope! TrainerRoad acts a lot like a head unit by displaying your ride data while you work out. You can use a head unit alongside your computer or mobile device while you train, but it’s not required.

  • Do I need an internet connection to use TrainerRoad?

You’ll need internet access to download the TrainerRoad app, create an account and to verify your membership status every 30 days. You’ll also need internet access to publish completed rides from your computer or mobile device to your online profile.

Once you’ve downloaded the TrainerRoad app you don’t need an active connection to actually perform a workout.

  • Does TrainerRoad record speed and distance during my workouts?

Yes, but speed and distance are not all that useful when you train indoors. These metrics are often different from the values you’d expect performing the same effort outside.

If you’d like to access estimated speed and distance, you can do so by viewing your completed rides in the desktop app, or by using Ride Sync to upload your ride to TrainingPeaks and Strava.

  • Can I use TrainerRoad on my phone or tablet?

Yes! You can download TrainerRoad for iOS from the Apple App Store and TrainerRoad for Android from the Google Play Store.

  • Can two people use one TrainerRoad account?

Nope. Each person who uses TrainerRoad needs their own account.

  • Can I use TrainerRoad on more than one device?

You sure can! TrainerRoad is available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices so you can train when and where is most convenient for you.

  • You have so many workouts! Where should I start?

The first workout you do should be an FTP (Functional Threshold Power) test designed to assess your fitness. TrainerRoad uses the results of your FTP test to tailor every future workout you do to your personal fitness level.

  • What’s a training plan?

Training plans, designed by Head Coach Chad Timmerman, define how long, hard and frequently you need to ride your bike to properly progress your fitness to reach your goals.

  • Are training plans included in my TrainerRoad membership?

Yep! You have access to more than 100 training plans designed for every type of rider.

  • How can I entertain myself while I use TrainerRoad?
