Getting started with TrainerRoad is simple so you can focus on what really matters: becoming a faster cyclist. Here’s how.
Step 1: Check Your Equipment
Before you sign up, let’s make sure you have the right equipment for optimal training with TrainerRoad. Our software supports a wide range of trainers and devices to measure your power, heart rate, speed and cadence.
Speed Sensor + Trainer
Use a speed sensor and VirtualPower® to turn your speed into watts.
Power Meter + Trainer
Connect your power meter via ANT+ or Bluetooth Smart for power-based targets.
Automatically control your trainer's resistance when using a smart trainer.
Step 2: Install the Software
After you sign up, you’ll need to install TrainerRoad on your preferred operating system. Don’t worry, it only takes a few minutes.

Step 3: Pair Your Devices
Once you've installed the app, you'll need to pair your devices before you start training. TrainerRoad pairs with most ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart devices.
Step 4: Your First Power Test
The time has come for your first ride! Your first workout will be either the 8-minute or 20-minute FTP test. Our FTP-assessments are designed to accurately test your fitness to ensure you get the most out of TrainerRoad.Which Fitness Assessment is right for you?
Step 5: Choose a Training Plan
Choose from one of the many highly-effective training plans included with your membership. If you are between plans, you can choose from hundreds of other structured workouts. Or, you can create your own with the built-in Workout Creator.
