WKO5 is here and it looks... different

sure, they help, but often they give you the information to use the FB Group, i really hate FB, thats the thing :grimacing:

Guess it helps that I find modifying and creating formulas to be straightforward, and my questions are very precise about syntax (“I tried X, is it possible to do Y”).

How useful / informative do you see the new VLAmax estimation? Do you need to do specific intervals to get this?

It comes with a lot of caveats:

What do you want to do with the information first of all?

Rondal - that was really my question with “how useful / how informative” the estimation is.

“Despite being the author of this VLamax model, I cannot determine the ways in which people will use it to augment their training philosophy, and I’m looking forward to seeing how others find it useful”

Interesting. Why model something in the first place if you don’t know what to do with it / how to use it?

Because they can, and I’m sure some influential folks are demanding a point-counterpoint with INSCYD.

It was a really common request from people so they built it. But honestly everyone who asked has been more or less scratching their heads as a result for how to use it.

its absolutely a counter to INSCYD who has been touting it as a game changer since they released their model and services early last year. OK fine, here it is, now what?
There’s a lot of metrics like this. HRV comes to mind. great that i have this data/models, but what behavior am i changing or how am i altering my training to get a desired result.
Sometimes keep it simple stupid really is the right approach.

Have to visit a lab to make use of inscyd it seems from listening to some of this podcast before I realized I have no interest in it at the moment.

That’s not the point…

  1. I don’t want to be forced to use a social media platform I despise, to interact with the WKO community
  2. Part of the process of learning the product’s features and capabilities is the casual browsing and reading that can occur on a forum that is well laid out (which the FB group is not).
  3. Not everyone has a programming or technical background like you (or I) so your use case is the exception, not the norm.

EDIT: I bought WKO5 after asking support whether there would be forums established. They told me there would be, plus Tim mentioned it several times. I feel like I was duped.

Yes I agree with all four of your points.

(I didn’t mean to line you up btw… I re-read what I posted, sorry if it came across that way.)

No worries I also feel a bit duped over the forum:

That was some time ago. Great tool but no community for me.

I picked up WKO5 last Thanksgiving on their black friday special. Then I let it sit on my computer unused for a solid six months. It was all greek to me and I didn’t have the time to learn. Lately I’ve started watching all of Cusick’s videos and learning bit by bit.

I think it’s a total bargain when you consider the hours and hours of educational videos that you get with the software. It’s basically a coaching platform and they tell you how to use it. So, if you outgrow cookie cutter, one size fits all plans, you can now roll your own training progressions and customize your training. One does have to want to commit to the learning and do a few things their way.

VLAmax - so why not use it the way Inscyd says to use it? Do certain types of training to drive it down if that matches your goals or try or try to increase it if that floats your boat. Maybe it’s not the game changer that Inscyd makes it out to be?

The biggest struggle is there are 8,000 users in Facebook of which 7,000 of them WANT it there. We have tried to move it once to many complaints. Maintaining two “communities” is just too difficult. I am not a big Facebook fan and rarely post anything outside the group but hard to move off it now. Sorry, know that is not answer you are looking for but at least an honest one.

A wise answer…

Thanks @TimWKO for the honest answer. Apparently TrainerRoad was also worried about two communities, and after launching this one it exploded. But no guarantees same will happen to WKO.

Love WKO and the webinars, big fan and supporter. Having bought WKO4, WKO5, and a Velocious training plan (masters full season iLevels), just wanted to tell you I am disappointed no email has been received about the upcoming WKO5 only webinars. Learned about it on these forums. Hoping they will be archived and I’ll have access if work interferes with attending the Zoom meeting. Thanks for all you do!
