This was an incredible Amber Ale IMHO, definitely a great beer for cold weather. Going to have my daughter pick some up before she comes home for the holidays.
Wye Valley, Butty Bach.
So I got the Beers of Cheer case from Costco this year…basically a Beer Advent Calendar.
beers so far:
- Red Hook Storm Surge Hazy IPA (good, but a bit generic)
- Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale (quite good)
- Some Apricot Sour, which I absolutely will not touch. Sours are gross. (Don’t @ me)
- A Hefe Weizen which I did not try yet because it was the same night as the above noted Xmas party
- Goose Island So-Lo IPA (if I was gonna drink a low-cal IPA, this would be it…but it was only OK)
- Kona Brewing Big Wave Golden Ale for tonight
@Power13 don’t be so sour on sours We’ve been to Hawaii for vacation sooooo many times, Kona’s Fire Rock Pale Ale and Castaway IPA are ok and my usual choices. Big Wave is a ‘light’ (as in alcohol) beer for daytime sipping in the hot sun.
I have tried multiple times to like Sours…they are gross and I will die on this hill. Hell, they shouldn’t even be classified as “beers”, IMO!!
I’ve had all those Kona Beers…Big Wave is fine, but nothing spectacular. As I like to say to my daughter “It’s a beer.”
That looks quite tasty!!
according to the can beer is better if you drink it outside, because if you don’t like it just spit it out and no mess to clean up!
Sounds lush!!
True to my word, the wintery beers are here. First up, a 10.5% stout by Verdant. Delicious recovery juice…
Pretty boozy!!
Looping back to the Cucumber Sour…my daughter came home last night and she likes Sours and cracked it open. I had to try a sip and you know what…it actually was OK. Certainly not a beer I would ever choose, but the Cucumber flavor was subtle and upfront and it was not very sour at all.
The Apricot Sour from a few days earlier was much more offensive.
is this the sign of the end of days?
I’m a little concerned, I must admit!
Haven’t seen that one around here yet….gonna keep an eye out for it!
Last night at the grocery store I saw an empty spot where the Deschutes Jubeale was suppose to be! Next time…
