Hi!
I did a ramp test today. The result was a FTP of 258. But, if I instead use my best eight minute power from the same ramp test and multiply with 0,9 my FTP is 270. Which number would you guys use?

I wish that’s how it worked, but no. I believe the calculation they use for the Ramp Test is basically just 75% of your best 1 minute power.
Yes, thats right. But would it be wrong to use the eight minute power instead? Is it likely that I would score higher if i retested using the eight-minute test?
The ramp isn’t really suitable for applying the 8 minute maths to. They are very different tests.
that eight minute is not your steady effort. The intensity changed every minute. The question is can you hold your 8th minute power for 8 minute?
In my humble opinion, if you want to set your FTP higher then just set it higher. If you can’t finish the workouts, then that’s a good sign that your FTP is too high.
Yes, absolutely wrong!!! Do not pass ‘Go’, do not collect $200.
If you want to look at an 8-minute test evaluation, you need to perform an 8-minute test, period.
You’d have to do 300watts twice for 8 minutes, that’s a whole other beast than averaging 300watts once for 8 minutes.
Thanks. I think I got the message
