How important is the recovery week?

I am halfway though sustained power build, low volume. I’m just about to start the week four recovery week.

I have a trip to Cancun with my family planned for that same week. I was thinking of just taking the full week off instead of doing the assigned, low intensity rides.

Is this a terrible idea? Can I get away with this without losing too much of what I have worked for?

You can definitely just take the week off without seeing a detrimental effect on your training. If you look at the recovery week, all the rides are low intensity so you wouldn’t be missing much. If you can load up on training a little extra before leaving, that might help, but jumping in to week 5 after you get back from Cancun should be fine.
