Workout changes morning of

Relatively new to TR. I am doing a plan with goal events starting March next year and am in the base phase of my plan. My calendar is populated months out with specific workouts, which is nice because I can look ahead, plan nutrition and mentally prepare (especially for those VO2 max sessions). A couple of times now though I’ve noticed when I wake up for my 6 am ride that my workout has been changed from what it was the night before - usually still in the same category, but once or twice an endurance ride changed to recovery.

I don’t mind this necessarily, and if I’m feeling really good I sometimes will use alternates to bump it back up, but I’m curious about what is going on here. Is TR pulling data like HRV or sleep scores from the night before to make the last minute change? Or is it just waiting until the last possible moment to make adaptations from my previous workouts?

Hey @Rmbliesner, welcome to the forum!

There’s actually quite a lot that goes into adaptations, but any recorded stress that happens between workouts and the time between them does affect what we recommend.

For instance, if you have a really full week and have accrued a lot of recent stress, what we recommend you do early in the morning might be different than what we’d recommend in the evening since you’ve potentially had 10-12 hours of rest since your last workout.

If at any point you’re seeing things that don’t make sense to you or have other questions, don’t hesitate to reach out! :slightly_smiling_face:
