WKO5 is here and it looks... different

i dont have that issue at all.
what i have found is that some of the old charts are slow, but the native WKO5 ones are really quick. I dont use any of the old WKO4 charts so not really an issue for me.

I haven’t upgraded to WKO5 so those experiences are only applicable to 4. Good to know because I been waiting for 6 because the initial reason to upgrade to 5 was only applicable to Apple users (Apple broke the upload to Training Peaks) and haven’t heard any response if the “slowness” was addressed (except by Apple users).

it sounds like you are going to be waiting a while. it doesn’t sound like WKO5 is in sunset mode as they continue to add features.

If you don’t use different FTPs for outdoor and indoor biking, is there an easy way to have WKO5 use a single FTP for all types of riding?

Hmm, well you helped me figure out something.

This indoor workout recorded on Garmin 530:

image

was Orange and wrong TSS. And on TrainingPeaks it was green and correct TSS.

So your post got me to realize that WKO was using wrong FTP (indoor last set 2019 at 229, current outdoor is 264).

Details:

Changed it from Indoor Bike to Road Bike:

And now the TSS is correct.

So I guess the answer is to not use Indoor Bike, and set all indoor to Road Bike. Didn’t look very deep around WKO, I’m guessing the “CyclingIndoor” tag is ignored in favor of that Bike setting. Will continue to poke around the documentation on wko5.com.

The above was at the workout level. And I suppose the other solution is to manually set both Bike FTP and Indoor FTP at the athlete level.

At the athlete level there is also a sport type filter: WKO Sport Type Guide that should impact some of those charts.

I only found this because I was trying to figure out why my CTL on TrainingPeaks was different from my CTL in WKO5. It doesn’t look like there is a way to set a single FTP at the athlete level.

When I look at my athlete stats in TrainingPeaks, I see both a Bike & Indoor Bike for the following:

  • FTP
  • Max HR
  • Threshold HR
  • Threshold Pace in minutes / mile - whatever this means for a bike

And then there are the above metrics for “Other” ???

ya if you have same FTP indoors and outdoors, it appears you have to either:

  • change inside workout’s sub-sport type from Indoor Bike to Road Bike to use your single outdoor “bikeftp”
  • set both bikeftp and indoorbikeftp to same value

Given the number of indoor workouts I have, it was / is easier to set Bike and Indoor Bike FTPs to be the same - just means I now have another place I will need to update FTP when it changes:

  • TrainingPeaks
  • TR
  • WKO5 Bike & Indoor Bike
  • Hammerhead Dashboard for my Karoo 2

:cold_sweat:

Luckily I don’t care about Garmin Connect, or that would be another place.

nice thing about WKO is you can backdate changes to have your CTL properly adjust. TP doesn’t allow for that to occur.

Yes. I’ve always found it pretty incredible, and not in a good way, that TP doesn’t have an FTP history function.

Is anyone else getting an error message when trying to update?

Plus I’m on version 577, but the WKO5 release notes show the latest version as 576

yes but only looked because you mentioned it.

If I go to the downloads page: https://home.trainingpeaks.com/wko5/downloadtrial

and grab the latest of OSX, and then open the .dmg I get:

which shows build 577 was released on or about September 7, 2021.

I’ve been running build 577 for months, probably since early Sept based on the info above.

I’m getting the same on Windows, and its trying to tell me i dont have an internet connection? Random.

Thanks for confirming its not just me.

FYI: I filed a support case with TrainingPeaks on this, will update once I hear back.

about to pull the trigger on buying a licence but just wanted to make sure of one thing: if anyone has a coupon code, please let me know

Extremely looking forward to nerding out some more.

Very weird. I was just looking at release notes on the TrainingPeaks site and it looks like the last update was in September 2020.

The release notes should be updated. At least on macOS, the latest build is 577 and it was released on or around Sept 7, 2021.

All - the check update functionality is now working for me. And at least for the Mac, the most recent version is 577

perhaps a dumb q but aligning the training load between TP and WKO5 - any obvious reason why they might be off by a large margin? (talking about delta of 30)

edit: https://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/articles/360030113851-Why-don-t-my-WKO5-CTL-and-ATL-match-TrainingPeaks- trying this first.

OK, was the default FTP - ignore my post!

I had the same problem. Plus the fact that WKO5 has two different “bike” FTPs (“Bike Threshold Power” and “Indoor Bike Threshold Power”) that you need to set to be the same to match your TP & WKO5 CTLs.

Rant: Why can’t I tell WKO5 that I’m using the same “FTP” for indoor and outdoor rides? Why isn’t the ability to have different a setting, and only if you choose to have different FTPs, you can set them differently?
