WKO5 is here and it looks... different

Targeted intervals. Even understanding the existence will be helpful in the future.

There is a great educational webinar series on how to use WKO5, walking you through how you can use it to improve yourself or others. As a new user, I found these invaluable and they gave me the confidence to buy after the trial

Ok cool, I’ll have a look through. Thanks.

The easiest way to find them is to search for WKO5 on You Tube

Not sure if others have the same experience, but my 7(!) best 5 minute powers of all time have come in ramp tests… so I’ll be doing that instead of a straight 5 minutes.

i get my 9-10min power records from ramp test, 5min has always been done outdoors and its simply because the efforts are short enough you need to be near full gas the whole time.

Hoping dark mode returns…

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you and the team. Other than dark mode, I’m really really really happy with WKO5. As with any major upgrade it takes time to develop new ā€œmuscle memoryā€ (trackpad memory?!). Definitely worth the upgrade and looking forward to future updates. :+1:

:+1: and Happy Thanksgiving :turkey::maple_leaf::plate_with_cutlery:

Per the release notes and my own experience, it’s one chart at a time for this release. Click configure and then change chart background to black and text color to white.

I’m looking to create an additional data on my ride analysis workout graph, but can’t work out the Expression to input into the chart.

I want to show modeled VO2 Max alongside my power data throughout the ride so I can see how it increases as the interval progresses…any takers?

Cheers
Dave

Its a long thread. Would someone humor me and explain what the difference between Training Peaks Premium and the WK05 is? I have the Premium and its an annual sub. Is WK05 a one off software charge and standalone? More detail. Is premium then required as well?

thanks

WKO5 is standalone one off fee.
You can upload manually or sync to / from TP
You can just us the free version of TP, but in my experience most have premium as well, even though it is not needed.

WKO is a powerful data analytics tool - TP is more planning. Both great, but for different things.

You can get away with Basic TP and WKO, but the ability to plan is limited. I use a combo of TP Basic, TR and WKO%. Given that I create my own workouts, I would probably drop TR is I weren’t Grandfatherd in at a low price.

Can anyone using WKO5 for Mac confirm they’ve improved performance since initial release?

Due to a global security certificate expiring, sync between TrainingPeaks (TP) and WKO4 broke, so TP decided to end support for WKO4.

The thing is, when I tried WKO5 on initial release, it was so slow with my large back-history of power files (~18 yrs) that even on a top-spec 5K iMac and giving the program plenty time to optimize, it was unusable. I also found the updated interaction design to be clunky.

When I reluctantly upgraded from WKO3 to WKO4, I thought I’d just stay on it indefinitely. Unfortunately I do rely on the TrainingPeaks/WKO4 sync to keep my post-ride workflow automated (Wahoo BOLT → auto uploads to TrainingPeaks → syncs to WKO4 on launch). Since that’s now broken I need to add some manual steps to the process.

Here’s TP’s email to current WKO4 customers:

We’re reaching out today to let you know that on May 30th, 2020, a worldwide expiration of an SSL security certificate affected the synchronization between WKO4 and TrainingPeaks. You may have noticed that your data no longer syncs between the two products.

Effective June 1st, you’ll still be able to use WKO4 locally on any computer that already has it installed, including access to your personal charts.

However, you will no longer be able to:

  • Install WKO4 on additional devices
  • Sync workouts with TrainingPeaks
  • Use Maps or New Default Charts
  • Receive technical support from our Customer Support Team

This issue has affected many businesses around the world and would require significant resources to fix the problem. In truth, we are actively in the process of ramping down WKO4 for fall of 2020. So rather than investing time into fixing an older version of the software, we’re offering you the chance to upgrade to WKO5 for 50% off .

Upgrading to WKO5 will help you achieve better results with individualized training zones, deeper insights into your training and the latest science-based training innovations.

To upgrade, use coupon code WKO5MAC50 before June 17th and receive 50% off!

While 50% off seems like a great ā€œdealā€, my experience with WKO5 was so bad you’d have to pay me to use it!

Works great now. At some point I commented about performance improvements because I had been critical about it.

WKO5 works great for me on a 7 year old mac book.

Generally, it speed things up if on the dashboard, you view ā€œAll Workoutsā€ on a particular dash and let the data load.

Better explained here.

I’ve never had a problem with speed on my MacBook with WKO4 or 5
