Gonna be honest y’all… Had a @#$ of a time tonight. Latent stress from Corona (living here in Seattle,) a bit of impending doom, and then messing up my nutrition combined hard on this one. I was ready to quit before I even got on the bike. I don’t mean this in some melodramatic oooooh look how hard I am for getting through it, just really, this one sucked. The power drop in the last 20min was a sugar bonk I eased by finding some fruit snacks in my bike, amazingly. But yeah, felt like garbage, was bargaining 5 minutes at a time throughout this whole thing. Oh well, it’s done I guess. HR was great for a relatively higher effort though. If I even have races this year, I’m excited to see what watts I can get for low HR.
It’s these kind of sessions that maketh the rider! Well done ![]()
Elephants -2. Mixed bag - legs felt heavy most intervals, specially the last one. Starting at almost 10 pm, when usually I’m already asleep probably didn’t help. Feel good this morning though.
For my home lockup day #1 dining pleasure, TR served up Carpathian Peak from the morning masochist menu. It was delicious. Compliments to chef Chad.
Stay healthy everyone!
Table Rock
Again doing the short Tour of Watopia, but rest interval hit on the Volcano climb and no way at my weight can I do 140W up there… I’d still be climbing it now. Anyway felt good again so left it close to FTP for finish run in and just ramped it up to the line knowing I still had a bit to do. Spike was when I was on 170% erg and interval started before I 'd dropped it down to 100%… had to grind it there.
Did Mary Austin -1… Was absolutely terrified of it after reading all the posts about this bad boy/girl/it
But actually managed to nail it to the bone, so stocked! Guess being consistent really pays off ![]()
Mary Austin -1 . Did Darwin yesterday, so I didn’t know if I would be sufficiently recovered. As they say “Done and Dusted”
Decided since there’s no skiiing this weekend (ski hills all closed, and I’m quarantined anyway), I could do longer training Saturday morning rather than Friday as usual - so Zwift, Tour de Watopia, stage 3, short ride. The “I’ll take it easy” phase lasted about 3 minutes.
Good workout nonetheless.
Tunemah at 101%
Think my ftp last result was slightly low so I’ve been doing these at 101% to see. This was the hardest one since I started that but I made it to the end!
had a workout scheduled but it was way too gorgeous to not ride outside. So i went out and basically just did tabatas around Mercer Island trying to keep it fairly close to 1:1, but terrain dependent.
It was hard to track the intervals though so iw as wondering, how will i know when to stop?
Turns out I definitely knew when to stop. Accumulated something like 30 minutes of Vo2max to anaerobic power and had just about nothing left for the ride back.
I can attest to that truth. Today I tried out this fuelling protocol (kind of):
https://www.nhs.uk/news/food-and-diet/sugar-and-water-as-good-as-a-sports-drink-says-study/
100g sugar in each bottle + 1 bottle straight water (thank god!).
Been a long time since I’ve had liquid carbs on the bike.
Sooooo sweeeet!!
Once past the initial shock, it was like rocket fuel!
RPE dropped to at least 5. Post-workout I wasn’t craving the carbs either.
Might try again for harder/longer workouts.
Augusta. And I blew it completely
Did Raymond +7 as part of the 2nd week of Sustained Power Build medium volume;
That was a tough one ! 4x 8min @108% plus the fact I got pollen allergy exploding my lungs and medication which is “soporific level one”
Dig deep to nail it ! Happy this is done under those conditions
PS: Still enjoying the HT session outiside while looking at the clear blue sky. It’s perfect day to train outside but COVID-19 decided not to… ![]()
How do you manage quarantine ?
Outdoor ride before that gets banned too. Couldn’t resist a little hit - first time I’ve done this since Sept/Oct = 5 KOMs. I’ll move my Saturday TR ride to Sunday as group rides are all cancelled.
FTP progression to improve my TTE - 2x30@95 FTP + 40 minutes of endurance. Legs were a littlw bit stiff after 3x20 O/U but it was surprisingly doable. At the end trainer lost power for a second hence the power drop. So next week I will try 5x15 ![]()
82.55 miles outside in the glorious sunshine although it was very windy in the UK. Group rides are cancelled but went out with a friend but didn’t shake hands get to close etc. Anyhow I was practicing social distancing anyhow because he is quicker than me and he dropped me in the last 10 miles as he had to get home early! ![]()
