Been thinking a lot about Sweet Spot training coming out of SSB LV2.
To be honest, the plan I just finished felt a lot like a build phase with all of the Vo2 and Threshold work. Now that I’m starting General Build I feel a little burned and am not anxious for every session on the trainer to be a knock-down/drag-out affair.
I guess my question is this – what if I did just Sweet Spot for the next couple months? What would happen? Anyone tried this? How did your FTP progress?
Also - does duration of the interval matter? Meaning…if I spent an hour at sweet spot via 3x20 minute intervals, is there a measurable benefit to doing that vs. 6x10 minute intervals? Does the interval length matter? Or is it just time in sweet spot?
Kicking around the idea of doing this to psych myself up for regular training – I’m sure before long I will tire of the longer intervals and be anxious for the mental stimulation of short, intense Vo2 work, and then I’ll plug that back in.
Just thinking out loud, but would love to hear if anyone has any experience doing this.
For reference, I’m 44 years old / FTP 289 / 3.65 W/Kg / been doing structured training since the end of last summer.
