Turned 40 earlier this year and we typically do an out of country trip every year. Since it’s my 40th, I got to pick the 2023 trip without argument. We’re hitting Belgium for 4 days for the Tour of Flanders and lots of Belgian beer, then headed to Munich for 6 days for Bavarian hiking and German beer.
@craigmanning I’m headed to the grocery store for ice and noticed the Unibroue on my last trip. I went back to Costco for 3 more bottles of Chimay Grande Reserve, love love love that beer. I’ll try and expand my horizons and try a bottle or two of the Unibroue.
About 15 years ago, had a meeting in Belgium. The company I was with has a big operation there. We had an offsite at a very cool chateau type place. I flew in overnight on the day the meeting was to begin. Meeting all day, then a team event and dinner. Standard corporate stuff.
The event was a beer tasting. I was expecting a tasting of small flights. Nope. These guys had eight different beers and everyone got the whole bottle. On my best day I couldn’t handle eight beers. After flying in, meeting all day, maybe 1/2 a beer.
We had a blast with the different beers.
Also, there was no food at the beer tasting. It lasted until about 10pm when finally we stumbled into another hall for dinner. I got to bed about 1am and was knackered.
Most useful part of the meeting was the beer tasting.
Looking at it the wrong way, it’s more great beer for me… tonight’s haul includes Beer Advocate ratings of 90 (California) 96 (Quebec), and 99 (Belgium).
