Hello all,
Right now my plan has me riding five day per week, three hard workouts and two endurance rides.
Volume Check is recommending that I increase my hard workout time from 1:15 to 1:30 on Tuesday and Thursday and from 1:30 to 1:45 on Saturdays.
Saturdays is not a problem but during week it’s a bit harder because when I get out of work.
Last year when I got the recommended I only did it for Tuesdays and Saturdays.
This time around I want to try it out before committing 100% to see if I can make it work better than last year.
Now without just editing the whole plan would it be better just to pick longer Alternate Workouts or go into the workout and edit the time?
I’ve also thought of just keeping the time the same and just wait until TR show the card where it recommends the longer workout for that day.
TR staff if necessary you have permission to go through my calendar and post any feedback, thank you.
Just edit the time. You can do this on any day you have more/less time and it’ll adjust. You’ll be able to see what impact the system predicts, and decide from there if it was a good change or not.
Better is whatever makes the prediction go up the most. Changing duration via edit menu is better than picking a workout on your own, because it still uses the AI to pick workouts, and most people will pick worse rides if given the chance.
Of the ways you can increase volume, waiting to maximize progression for a specific day and letting the AI increase length of that day is the slowest way to progress volume. It will also reduce volume again by design when FTP adjusts.
Volume over time is one of the strongest predictors of performance. If you have time/interest to ride more, you will generally perform better with more volume. Assuming you follow a sensible training plan, and that you’re not already maxing out your recovery capability. Most people have much less time than max recovery available.
So my AIFTP detection was today, it did go up 3 watts.
Now what sucks is that for this is the next detection is a drop because I’m going away on family holiday and will miss 6 workouts.
This is good to know, thanks.
Right now my Threshold ride is on Saturdays and that I have no problems adding time and as for my SS rides, I’m on two during the week now but that will change soon to Vo2 and SS.
If I can only extend one I know to make the SS longer.
I didn’t think about that before.
I do go with the alternate longer workouts first rather than editing the plan directly.
That way you keep your original structure intact, but still get a feel for the extra load without fully committing. If it starts feeling too tight on weekdays, you can always scale back quickly.
Only worth editing the workout times if you’re 100% sure you’ll stick with the new duration long-term.
So I started comparing the Edit time Workout to the Alternate longer workouts and the both come up with the same workout for 1:30 hours, in my case Garrowby +4.
So Like you said this looks like the best approach to see if it works for me during the week before committing.
After the workout I’ll check before hand if the something happens for Thursday’s workout.
So I started to change the workout times and for the hell of it I checked the Workout Volume again.
I don’t know why it did it but now it recommends what I’m doing now with less time for Sunday.
I’ll check it again on my next AIFTP detection.
