📣 🎉 New Feature: Check Plan Volume 📣 🎉

Hey everyone,

We just added the ability to check your training plan volume from the Calendar! It’s quick and easy; just click the new Check Volume button. It’s available for everyone today.

Check Plan Volume

When you initially build a training plan, TrainerRoad analyzes your training history and gives you an AI-driven recommended schedule. This recommendation meets you where you’re at to give you the right amount of structured interval training while avoiding fatigue from sudden spikes in training stress.

As you progress through your training plan, you might reach a point where you feel it’s time for a change in training volume. You might be feeling ready for more, or maybe even need a little less (post-sickness, anyone? :raised_hand:).

When you get to that point, you can use the new Check Volume button! This will prompt TrainerRoad to reevaluate your training schedule and suggest any changes that could make you faster.

How Do I Check My Plan Volume?

The new Check Volume button can be found on your Calendar when using the TrainerRoad website.

Clicking on your plan start annotation, a phase start annotation, or the plan name above the TSS chart will open the Training Plan Overview. You’ll find the Check Volume button at the bottom of this overview.

You can also find the button when you right-click your plan start annotation or a phase start annotation (did you know about right-click actions on the Calendar?!).

Clicking Check Volume will bring you to the Schedule step of Plan Builder, with your updated plan volume recommendation. Proceed through the rest of Plan Builder as you normally would to update your plan! Or exit out of Plan Builder to keep your existing plan.

When Should I Check My Plan Volume?

We recommend using this button when you feel like you’re ready for a change in training volume. This could be after completing a phase of your training plan, but could happen at any point in your training.

Note that your volume recommendation may be the same as the original one. That simply means your current plan schedule is still the best for you!

Let me know if you have any questions, or if you experience any issues with it. Happy training!

Cool! Is there any limit on how often I can recheck volume ?

Nice!

Mine did increase my volume over the current plan.

I also noticed that it recommended a 3 days of high intensity plan. My previous plan was setup as a Masters with 2 day high intensity.

I’m curious if that recommendation is AI based, like it’s looking at my previous completion, adherence, recovery, etc. for that recommendation or if it’s just the default?

There’s not a limit on how often you can recheck volume. I’d recommend waiting a few weeks between checks, though.

Super timely since I’m just coming off of two weeks with the Flu.

Consistently getting 500 errors when I try to use this feature:

Awesome to hear!

Check Volume is auditing your recent training load, workout completion, and progress through your plan when it makes its recommendation. Plans with 3 days of high intensity are the starting recommendation for most younger athletes, but if you’re finding the masters plan is working well for you, I’d stick with it! It’s often factors from off the bike (such as work schedules, family stress, etc.) that make masters plans the best choice, even if the raw data suggest you could potentially handle more.

Having a look at this, thanks for reporting it. It could be a transient server-side issue if you want to give it another go.

Still no luck on my end, but excited to try it out once the issue is resolved!

Hey, thanks for the clarification!

Definitely not a younger athlete which is what piqued my curiosity to where the recommendation came from.

Getting the ‘Something went wrong…’ error page when I try it

Does the training approach aggressiveness slider affect this? If I make my training approach more aggressive, will I get more recommended hours? @ming

I don’t have this option. Is it because I am on a triathlon plan? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Sorry about the error. I found the root cause of it but it’s a non-trivial fix  might take some time to fix.

I’m going to DM both of you with potential workarounds in the meantime.

Yep, changing your Training Approach will likely affect the plan volume recommendation. After clicking Check Volume, you’ll be on the Schedule step. From there, press Back to see the Training Approach slider. Changing your Training Approach and proceeding forward will result in a new plan volume recommendation.

At the moment, custom volume recommendation is not supported for tri plans.

Gosh I do not see this function available currently on my calendar page. Started a sprint Triathlon training plan on Feb 25th. Went to see if there was a volume recommendation icon and there was nothing.
