I can’t imagine peeing in my bibs intentionally. I hate when I get a little more than usual dribble after a nature break.
I grew up surfing. An early winter morning wetty warmer while paddling out is truly glorious Just never considered it in a dry sport.
Hey Jonathan,
The bias I have here isn’t specifically against Yeti but against the belief that boutique brands and spending the most money is always better. You will get more bling but that doesn’t mean instant performance.
You may not have meant to say “for a good rear suspension design you’ll need a high end build or a boutique brand because they put a ton of work in to make sure it’s perfect.” But that is what you did say and it is completely wrong. You can get a good rear suspension design from any reputable brand and as a generalisation, from mid spec upwards.
People listen to this podcast for the great information that you guys provide which does make people faster but if someone is listening who wants to get into mountain bikes and now thinks they need to spend a ton of money or they aren’t going to get good suspension, then that is more likely to put them off it all together or just make people with non boutique bikes think they can’t be as fast because their bike isn’t good enough.
To the question on the podcast you could have just said, If you find yourself regularly hitting full travel when setup at the manufacturers recommended sag try adding spacers. If you ride terrain that never gets you close to full travel then you may get more initial plushness by removing a spacer. There was no need to bring boutique brands or spec level into it at all. Most people don’t need to buy a new shock for it to work correctly.
Consider my rant over, I’ve grumbled under my breath a few times when this came up while listening to the whole back catalogue. If I didn’t insist on owning 3 mountain bikes I could ride a boutique brand, I’ve tried a few and I wasn’t any faster, but I’d rather encourage others into the sport by lending them a bike and showing them how great it is out on the trails. That’s my why, so I hope you understand my frustration when you give answers like this especially when I know you have many listeners that trust the answers you give.

Listening to the talk about nutrition in this episode, as well as other discussions about what to eat and when, I couldn’t help but wonder how the conversation might change after you have watched The Game Changers on NetFlix. This documentary is, in my opinion, screen time well spent. Let me know what you think.
I hope you’re kidding, that film at best is misleading. I’d refer you to this thread:
As a matter of fact, I am not kidding. FWIW, I am also not taking the film as gospel. The quote you included from the nutrition thread in your reply is at best one person’s anecdotal response to a vegan lifestyle; so I trust that isn’t your entire argument against the message the film is trying to convey. I already lean toward a plant-based diet, but that doesn’t mean I’m giving up all animal products. I am, however, having a rethink about eating animal products 24-48 hours before an event or long ride after watching the film.
Sorry for the bad pun; but, I think all of this is, ahem, just food for thought.
Until there’s a reliable study that strictly compares plant based vs the same plant based food with quality animal products, it’s just a waste of time.
The studies that show these benefits are all from supplementation via pills. You basically can’t get enough in food form.
If you want the benefits that have been reported it makes sense to take the same thing that they used.
It’s not really the forum. Mostly private messages sent to us.
I believe the officials did move him up.
I would agree, the documentary was certainly biased toward a plant-based diet and was a galaxy away from anything resembling a science based study.
On the subject of upgrading categories… yeah i think what the coaches said about not upgrading too fast only applies to people like me. Where i was category 5 and after just one season of cat 5 where i was always dropped before the end of every road race And crit that i did… and then suddenly went to category 4 only because i satisfied the requirement of getting ten starts… foolish choice… Because by the end of the cat 5 season was finally getting closer to staying with the peloton… now I’m in cat 4 and suffering from no ability to race tactically and after 3 years of cat 4 I’m only just beginning To have the fittnes to try tactics anyways.
Same is true for every single wetsuit Tri swim ever.
Schitt…I don’t even have to swim anymore. Putting on a wetsuit triggers a Pavlovian response in me. Once the suit is on, I have to pee immediately.
I’ll never forget waiting once to get in the water…had to pee like the proverbial race horse. “God, I hope they start us soon so I can pee!” My buddy looks at me and says “Why wait? I’m peeing now.”
Now a wetsuit is like a mobile portapotty for me…
4:36 - Chad, sorry for picking on you, but where did you find the information that “viri” is correct plural form of “virus”? Or was it a joke that I didn’t get?
I did wonder about this but didnt look it up intil now
People also ask
Why is the plural of virus not viri?
Viruses is the only way to make the noun virus plural . Confusion arises over the plural of virus because people mistakenly believe that viri or virii is its Latin plural form, (in the same way that fungus, cactus, and hippopotamus become fungi, cacti, and hippopotami).
Yup, male. Damn auto correct. Will definitely have to look that one up but.
In this episode you mention how everything should be perpendicular, and being OCD I get it… I use a dumb trainer without Erg so I’m focused on the power target but problem is that it’s on the top left of the screen which I just don’t understand. So I have either tilt neck left which is less than ideal or offset the entire screen to be aligned to the power target. Is their a customization I’m missing? @Nate_Pearson @Jonathan
