TrainerRoad and Zwift together?

Thanks! Would I be able to connect both the Wahoo Tickr and Cadence sensor to both Zwift and the Bolt?

Considering you seem to be using Apple products that require Bluetooth coms, maybe?

If you have one of the newest Tickr’s, those have the option of at 3 different BLE connections, so that can work. If you have the old one, it only does one BLE connection.

But I don’t think the cadence sensor has more than one BLE connection, so that will only work with one app. You can still use the internal cadence from the trainer for the other cadence data (this assumes you have one of the more recent ones, like the 2018 or newer).

Yes, typically when I ride on Zwift using Apple TV I use the companion app to connect via bluetooth. So I bought the Tickr last year and it is the model where the clip on straps is flush with the back of the sensor so I assume it is the newer one.

One more question: could an alternative be just to do a straight up ride on Zwift, sync it to Strava, and sync the Strava ride to TR and do this:

The workout is a flat 1.x endurance ride so I don’t necessarily need power goal cues?

Yeah, for simple rides like that, you can sure just ride it like you would if you were actually outside.

Is Zwift down for anyone else as well? Can’t log in.

Pretty sure there are issues currently, based on what I see in the Zwift Riders FB group.

It’s probably this.

Thanks for the heads up but I believe that is scheduled for this evening? I am pretty sure the outage I was speaking of seemed unplanned. Luckily they resolved it really quickly.

Indeed. The planned service and prior issues (as confirmed at that time by not having access via my Android Z app) are completely unrelated.

The answer to this thread might just get very very simple

Me: Why do you say that?

I do all my workouts via TR app on iPhone in Zwift on Apple TV . I have a Wahoo Kickr V5, which has 2 Ble channels. I have my PM 4iiii connected directly to my Kickr. And I wear 2 hrm , both Viiiiva. If one of the two channels (TR or Zwift might not upload, I always have a second.

I tend to know my way around the different worlds, so I make the route basically match the workout. Also not every workout I do is in erg-mode, but in Zwift Sim mode, measuring power only, and match the workout intervals, sort of pace-training.

And as an another option I set an Zwift ride as Outside workout. When I have round bald scheduled, I do the reverse kom on Watopia, i pick the mountain route, ride easily to the ramp to the Epic Kom, first part fast, then easy on the bypass, then i go up the reverse Kom, which is about 20 minutes of climbing, then down and repeat.

Something like that. Same as doing workouts outside. With the great advantage of being able to do this year round and as I live in Holland, I get to have climbs at my disposal. For shorter SST, like McGregor, I like the Innsbruck Kom, riding back and forth between the Kom and Reverse Kom

I pretty much only do the alpe… at least until i get the tron bike in a few months time. Mind you having a 4 week old in the house has really slowed down progress

DCR just released his take on combining the apps for dual use:

Missing option D… Single Screen computer or laptop only, which is still just hitting the little minimize button thingy in TR. But the ipad version does look like a cool option too. Wish id known that a year ago!!!

I’ve been dual device iPad and something else til now, nice to know you can run both at the same time on a single iPad now. Does it crap out Zwift when you switch screens?

I’ve personally never tired that, so I can’t say.

So for Option 3 (running both apps on a single iPad if you only have a smart trainer and no PM), @dcrainmaker says this:

C) You have some other trainer, but no other power meter: In this case, you could pick-up the $50 NPE CABLE accessory, which will make a second Bluetooth Smart channel for your trainer, by re-broadcasting the ANT+ data. Alternatively, the 4iiii Viiiiva HR strap also does the same ANT+ to Bluetooth bridging capability

I assume you could also use the NPE CABLE accessory to broadcast the second BT signal to another device, such as an android tablet or laptop, as well, correct?

The laptop I had been using to run Zwift on ANT+ (TR on BLE on my iPad) has finally crapped out permanently it seems….trying to figure out my options. I could do the single device option laid out here, but would prefer a dedicated screen for each app, I think.

This has been covered earlier on this thread but i invested in a dedicated desktop computer for my trainer with two modest 24inch monitors. One monitor runs zwift (ANT+) full screen & TR docked at the bottom of the screen (BLE & ERG). Other monitor for entertainment via music, youtube, movies etc etc.

Treadmill has a 40inch hand-me-down TV on the wall with Apple TV 4k to zwift only that works brilliantly, music via google home speaker on the wall

Can recommend the dedicated computer setup (wasn’t expensive at all) for the bike 10/10. Tried loads of other configurations before settling on this
