Quitting TR. Someone reply when they push an update

Is your cadence and heart rate data dropping in tandem too (or just power data)?

Just power, I havent had my HRM on in an attempt to limit the number of sources I have trying to communicate with my phone. Cadence seems to be steady, or at least as steady as I can physically manage. My Thursday session had more normal power variation you would expect to see with a 5 sec average, but these last 2 have not.

Not sure if this is helpful or not – ran into the dropout issues yesterday too, but i’m all on bluetooth, iOS. Setup;

  • kickr core 2018
  • iPad Air 2
  • wahoo cadence
  • wahoo heart rate

All connections dropped – multiple times through workout. Bike used in same place, so no changes to RF enviroment as compared to previous. Did hard reboot the kickr – that did seem to help, but still had 1 drop. Was the latest stable release of TR on iOS.

Thank you, finally. I’ve been having problems using the App on my phone for a while. works fine on my laptop. It’ll be nice to get this issue fixed and i can go back to relying on the App.

Frustrated user here too, but things seem to be trending towards the better.
Last year about this time I exclusively used USB ant+ dongle and an old windows computer. Experienced dropouts like crazy. It seemed to be during larger wattages- i.e. ramp testing which was that much more frustrating- not a time to dropout.

went to using a newer computer and usb ant+ and experienced much less problems, however it was very variable. It would work great for a few weeks and not so great other times. i blamed it on the windows app and possibly an old processor hanging up the communication.

fall of last year went to a iphone ant+ dongle and a iphone adapter to lightening. Used this for 3-4 months with very little problems. Then, i lost the dongle. Since then I’ve been trying to find a new dongle/adapter combo that would work. Nothing worked, so i had to shell out another $50 to get a bluetooth heart rate monito (was on an old ant+ garmin model before). Since then- very little problems.

So, it seems that for iphone bluetooth everything is the way to go. However, it is frustrating that TR still advertises that iphone/ipad works with ant+ when its virtually impossible- you can’t buy a lightening dongle and there are no officially supported adapters. Haven’t tried power match again, but i turned it off because it seems my trainer wouldn’t keep up with the adjustments. shimano power meter with tacx flux trainer…

Erg mode dropping mid interval

I have already dropped my subscription due to drop outs with both Ant+ and Bluetooth where I had to re-select Erg mode, hopefully this will get completely resolved.

I’m still having dropout issues.

Setup

  • Windows 10
  • Wahoo Kickr SNAP 2018 - ANT+
  • Garmin HRM - ANT+
  • Quarq Dzero power meter - ANT+

I’ve tried running just BT connections, apart from HR as that is ANT+ only, BT results are awful, freezes, drops all connections (I am thinking that this could be a PC issue - although I’ve checked all the BT settings are correct i.e. not set to power off)

I can see the Kickr SNAP connection icon disappear for a few seconds at which point TR drops the ERG mode, as I’d expect. I just can’t figure out why it drops the connection to it? It holds both the HR and powermeter connection fine.

USB extension cable?

Does the same, with or without. Tried 2 different cables, although PC is only 1-2meters away from crank and trainer.

Is it possible to move to 5GHz wifi (less interference)?

Also, have you tried using the TR beta version? Don’t worry, I’ve been using beta for years. Only once did I go back to the normal version due a weird bug in the beta.

We’re both on the same train of thought. :+1:

I moved that PC over to 5GHz some time back, before any of these issue started happening. I train in my garage, a specific area at the back which is away from most of the other ā€˜noisy’ house networks.

I’ve also been on the Beta version since release, I swap over and try the release version every now and then.

I’ve also tried disabling BT completely when using the ANT+ devices. I’ve also tried a Garmin and another ANT+ USB dongle.

Apprieciate all the help so far!

Yes… You’ve been thorough

Are you experiencing full out dropouts or just momentary pauses? I ask because I occasionally get ā€œworkout pausedā€, but then it resumes. i don’t even feel any changes or see any changes in the reports/graphs.

I assume you are using power match w/the Quarq. Have you tried using only the Kickr? How about only the Quarq? How is the battery in your Quarq?

It is only the trainer that drops out, the PM stays connected, I don’t get ā€œworkout pausedā€ due to the Quarq still providing cadence and power. Replaced battery in PM.

Yes, I’m using Powermatch. If I just use the trainer than it does the same dropout, which initailly made me think it was the Kickr SNAP. So, using Wahoo support, they gave me a power profile to try, but I had to use my phone which uses BT - so I can’t seem to follow their logic as I would think if anything it is the ANT+ side of things?

I wonder if there is a program which can monitor the ANT+ comms to try and see what is going on.

I best add, wife uses trainer with Zwift and she hasn’t seen any drops. Whether Zwift is a little more tolerable or not I don’t know, I’m not a software person.

I checked w/a buddy who is using TR and a Kickr 2nd gen. My setup is a bit different (i.e., Neo, ANT+, MacBook Pro) and problem free.

ANT+
Windows
Latest version of TR (non-beta)
Kickr2 (firmware 3.4.62)
Stages (L)
Garmin HRM

When I asked if he had any dropout issues, this is what he said:

Occasionally, yesterday had a couple. The resistance just Dips, my cadence jumps, Usually with a small spike in hr, then a few secs later back to normal again.

Looking at his ride, you barely even notice it. It only happened during the first 10min interval during a 2hr workout.

Is this the same type of dropout many of you are experiencing?

You can run your wife’s Zwift log file thru Zwiftalizer and check the generated report which will have ANT+ signal quality for your devices as well as some network stats. This should let you know if there are any obvious issues. Like you said, Zwift might be more tolerant. Then again, maybe the report comes back clean, but definitely worth a look.

The one difference I can see in my setup (which is dropout-free) to most who have dropouts on Win10/ANT+ is that I don’t have Wifi on that PC - it’s the only Cat-5 Eth connected machine in the network. So no direct Wifi interference. The ANT+ antenna is on the front of the box, which is at lest 3 meters away from my bike. All 3 ANT+ devices (Flux S trainer, Wahoo Tickr, Wahoo Cadence) are rock-solid. I have a USB extension cable I’ve used for BLE before, but I’m not using it on ANT+.

You are right that most seem to be on Win10/Ant+ and for me with a kickr 17. I have been trouble free with TR for over a year and the problems came immediately after a recent update. Took a while before anyone else started asking about the issue so I figured I was the only one. I switched to my iPad with Bluetooth and had no problems. Did a workout on zwift with Win10/Ant+/Kickr17 no issues as well. My problem seems to be with TR on Win10/Ant+. Also my Win10 machine is on WiFi.

I’ve got Bashful+6 tonight, I’ll start TR then disable the WiFi connection and see what happens. I’ll keep everything else the same and see what happens.

I’ve run her data through Zwiftaliser previously and I can’t remember the results off hand, so then next time she does a ride I’ll take a look and see if anything is reporting drops or interupts.

If I had a HR monitor which was BT I’d just run TR on my phone and use that, as when I’ve done that in the past it’s been rock solid. I just like to have HR data as well.
