Quitting TR. Someone reply when they push an update

So just finished Budawang +3, and whatever you did KEEP IT! Seriously, I am on android with Vector 2 Pedals, and it literally was night and day. For the past while I have been banging my head against the wall feeling like I was constantly chasing power and the workouts felt impossible.
On this Beta version everything felt great, power was steady with no crazy drops or jumps, and cadence was consistant for the power output, feels like TrainerRoad again!

Serious thanks to the team for taking care of us, as long as nothing changes I think this may have done it!

Edit: Had issues on over under workout I did Saturday, so it would appear the issue is still hit and miss?

also smart hydro meter

Yes, 2016 Kickr

I’ve been using ant+ and windows and a smart trainer for years and never had a single issue with any dropouts ever.

Just saying…sorry!

My riding partner (TiburonJS) did a recovery ride in Windows with the new TR beta, ANT+ connection and Kickr17.

Power tracked much better for this than any other in the prior release. He will try a regular (harder) workout this weekend, but it looked very good last night.

Software is hard, software that talks to hardware* is harder, software that talks to hardware over multiple protocols is harder than that. It’s not possible to replicate all of the variables from every user’s operating environment in test. You do what you can before launch, and respond quickly afterwards when people find a combination you didn’t test.

* Yes, all software talks to hardware on some level.

A plugged in iPhone charger ( genuine one ) caused dropouts in my ant+ and bluetooth. Just something else to check

… and software that runs on 4 different OS, two different protocols using a myriad of adapters and lord know how many different trainers, well, …

Still no issues here. Android phone connecting both to bluetooth (tacx vortex) and ant+ (HRM).

I hope that this update truly has solves all of you guys’ issues!

Galena last night, overall the beta still seems a lot better than the current release.

I did get one blip, which was especially painful as it was in the final 20-minute block:

I’m not on the beta - but Lion Rock felt easy. Like, the power on the kickr matched up to what my stages would be doing on the road. Not suer if it’s related. But just throwing it out there.

I have been in IT for 40 years so I understand the development lifecycle.
I also understand the ability to regress to a known good version.

I have the same setup as you and had the issue on Tuesday during Darwin and a couple of previously workouts. Note: I also have the ā€œworkout pausedā€ interruption fairly frequently.

But as long as TR knows about it and plans to address it, I’m fine with this inconvenience. That’s the tradeoff with a small company - get new features out fast but at the cost of QA of a more established entity.

Finally got to try beta today

Setup:

  • Tacx Vortex Smart - connected via BT
  • Garmin Vector s - connected via ANT+
  • Wahoo Tickr - connected via BT
  • Win10 beta

Did 2:15 with 5x20 sweet spot. First 90s there was an drop. Every 20min block has 1-3 drops. Some would drop the trainer, make me re-select erg but otherwise reconnected quickly. Others would just pause and reconnect.

I was able to ride, it’s a lot better but not as stable as it was prior to the last release.

You really should put everything on Bluetooth or everything on ANT+.

They have different signaling and throughput rates. This is likely to screw up the TR ERG algorithm due to the likely different timing of the inputs. Maybe I’m wrong? Maybe TR took this into consideration and made it a non-issue? :man_shrugging:

Bluetooth and ANT+ are both using the same 2.4GHz frequency band. This can lead to one interfering w/the other.

If you’re going to use ANT+, I recommend the use of a USB extension cable as well. Also, disable Bluetooth on your laptop. And you should disable power management on your USB port as well as verify that it is a 500mA port.

I’ve given up on TR’s windows support. Now just use the iOS app which is a shame as Windows is my preference.

I got a few dropouts on the beta tonight, MacBook with power2max & Kickr both connected over ant+.

After three beta rides I’d agree with your conclusion, it’s better but it’s not as good as it was pre-update.

Also having these dropout issues, I was going quite steadily into SSB and was about to do my ramp test for the next block and had a bunch of dropouts in maybe the last couple minutes. Very frustrating as it now happens in every workout I do.

I’m going to try the beta tomorrow but until this gets fixed to where it was before hand I’ll ride outdoors I suppose.

Setup

  • Windows 7
  • Wahoo Kickr 2018 - ANT+
  • Garmin HRM - ANT+
  • Easton CINCH power meter (set to cadence only) - ANT+

I recommend Trainerroad to most everyone who buys a smart trainer at my shop. Thank you for the team working on this issue.

I had 1 drop out during Pettit the other day using the beta, though it seemed to fix itself for the rest of the ride

Tried again today, still getting 10+ watt drops on the 5 sec average power displayed even watching my cadence and pedaling closely. I’m probably going to take a couple days off at this point and reset, Im just digging myself a hole trying to keep up with inconsistant power readings.
