And then you rated it “moderate”
Should they have rated it differently?
They said it “wasn’t sufficiently difficult,”
If it were me, I’d be rating that easy. Moderate would be “sufficiently difficult.”
Have you emailed support?
Oh no, not again …
Remind us what happens if you manually adjust your FTP to what you think it should be?
For the uninitiated, this person had spent some time on their Stages bike with only one crank paired to TR so the AI thinks they’re half as strong as they are.
The fix put in place for this kind of issue by TR is to do a ramp test but they don’t want do do a ramp test.
There may be a genuine issue here though because we as users have lost the ability to just tell the system how strong we are - the AI seems to need to learn it on its own - maybe the ramp test resets things?
It was moderate because I increased the power by 175% using the manual adjustment after starting. If I’d left it I wouldn’t have had a workout. Tha actual power during the rest intervals was at the same level as the FTP. See the screenshot. Actual power yellow line FTP white line at 100 the other white is cadence.
The initial problem was that I paired the Stages bike and two power meters to the app. The first ramp test set the power at double. It was reading 100watts when the real power was 200 watts. I later found that this is a known issue but they didn’t bother to fix it ir to note it in the set up instructions.
If I enter the correct FTP the app won’t generate any workouts.(unless I accept thre AI FTP or do a ramp test)
I don´t want to do a ramp test.
- I don´t want to put my heart rate above the medically recommended limit. A ramp test always does this.
- I don´t want to do a ramp test
- A ramp test does not fit into my training schedule
- Even if I do another ramp test I still want to be able to change the FTP if AI has it wrong.
- I want to be able to change my FTP in the future, e.g. after a layoff due to injury and not have to train for a month with unsuitable workouts just because I can´t override an incorrect AI FTP.
For me it is unacceptable that Trainerroad can´t simply fix this issue. Just replace the AI detected FTP with a manual input and let AI start over again. Why is it so difficult?
I would also like to know why this issue is marked as solved when it clearly is not solved.
My understanding from your previous posts about this was they explained to you that they don’t have the data they need because of the bad historical power meter readings. Even if they wiped your account, let you start fresh, and manually set your FTP, they still wouldn’t have the data they need to give you appropriate workouts. I think that’s why they said this is the solution.
What method/protocol are you using to determine your correct FTP?
I think it’s marked as solved because the OP’s issue was solved.
Hope this helps.
Probably best to got back and exclude the old dodgy rides from calculations?
I can confirm my problem is solved ![]()
I should not have to do inappropriate workouts for (at least) a month just because of a bug.
You need to calm down and self reflect. This was a you issue. Multiple other people have commented that they set up the bike correctly following the instructions, if you had followed the instructions accurately from stages then you would have been fine, if you had paused and realized you were working at a level twice as hard as expected for half the watts then you would have been fine.
I get that it’s frustrating to need to do the ramp test, but you don’t have valid data for an estimation. No system is going to be able to work off of that.
Is it not a case of garbage in garbage out?
Yes it sucks, but it’s not a tr issue per se; if you fed incorrect watts to a real person coaching you they’d give you incorrect targets.
As you can’t ramp test maybe run a couple weeks in MyWoosh doing a bunch of free rides and some TR train now’s that hit your targets. Then there should be enough stable decent information to build from.
Plus MyWoosh isn’t bad for a few fun laps.
The bug was your setup. You have a great community around here trying to help you but I’ve to admit your tone doesn’t encourage the engagement.
You have multiple options already mentioned like
- do ramp test
- Manually pick appropriate workouts for some weeks until the system catches up
Additionally my advice would be to erase all data. And then manually just upload the fit files with correct power (after you had fixed your setup). You could even use sites as
with power adjuster to correct the power of your old files … maybe even just the old ramp test … then upload these and your good to go.
If all this is no option for you then maybe TR is not the right platform for you.
That was my issue with my FTP bump and the workouts. heart rate was going not where I was comfortable. I did a manual FTP adjustment. All has worked well. I just dont see the ftp prediction
Obviously the model is being fed some bad data but I wonder why it does not also update itself when there are “breakthrough” efforts like the one in the image? Like if the ai thinks my ftp is 100w and I ride a workout at 200w for 40m it should look at that and go huh, maybe the users ftp is closer to 200w?
eta: I guess it depends on how much bad data there is and how the model weights everything?
