How to adjust training plan after being sick

I’m wondering if there’s a formal Plan Builder based suggestion for dealing with missing time due to illness. I was only 5 weeks into a TR training plan, then missed two weeks due to a cold. Now that I’m finally starting to feel better, I’d like to take a week for easy spins, then get back into proper workouts (assuming I’m up to it).

After missing the last two weeks, I’m due for a recovery week on my plan anyway. So I could just do these workouts, then see how I feel jumping back into the program. I assume PB will adjust the workouts downward after two weeks off, which is fine with me but thought I’d double check to see if TR had a better way to deal with this. Is there a formal way to tell the system I missed workouts because I was sick and let it reconfigure things for me? Is there another option I should consider?

Asking on the forum instead of e-mailing support as I can’t be the only one dealing with this during flu season. Answers I found on this topic on the forum were pre Personalized Training Plans and I’m hopeful that there’s now a formal way for Plan Builder to adjust for sick weeks.

Thanks

I’ve only recently started using the sick annotation, because I keep getting sick (toddler). I just did it now because despite redoing a new plan starting today I ended up sick again over the weekend.

Basically you click a date scroll down on the add a work out pop up and you’ll see sick. You can then set a date range and it will ask to adapt your plan for the workouts you missed.

If you had been adapting as you missed it might do nothing. If you haven’t logged back in and haven’t done any adaptations it will probably do something.

I believe one time I was in your situation with a rest week coming up so I just did those and didn’t mark sick, it had already adapted the following week/weeks because of the missed workouts previously. With a rest week coming up I’d probably just let it ride as is if were me. But noting rest can also be good when looking back and maybe impacts some of the RL/GL stuff, not sure.

Added in the sick annotation but it did not suggest any adaptions even though i just skipped all the workouts while sick.

If someone from TR can comment on whether this is the expected behavior or not, that would be interesting but shouldn’t affect me too much one way or another. I’ll try doing the recovery workouts and see how it goes. It will adapt the next phase anyway next week and all should be good from a training standpoint.

Thanks very much!

As far as I know that is the expected behavior. Since you have a recovery week coming up there are no workouts to adapt (yet). When starting the next block your workouts will adapt to reflect your levels that will have been adjusted down since by then you haven’t done productive workouts for three weeks.

Possibly N+1, but I was sick recently as well and adding the sick annotation didn’t do anything different than just skipping the workouts would’ve done.

came on to ask same thing, thanks mrtopher1980 I had no idea that was there. I only had 2 more workouts in the plan and they as yet haven’t moved but I optimistically said id be better by Saturday

Using Training Adjustments (formerly called "Calendar Annotations) is the way to go here, as noted by @mrtopher1980.

Your plan will adapt based on any workouts you miss so you can get back on track once you’re feeling 100% again.
