Yes, the combo TR->Garmin->RunGap->AppleHealth works if you use a Garmin watch/head-unit. Though, I do see a shortcut there for TR to use when you don’t use a Garmin … Does @SarahLaverty ?
With RunGap there is at least one option for @xterrastrial assuming TR is already syncing to Strava.
Once in Strava, RunGap can pull the workout and push it to Apple Health with HR data.
Strava ← RunGap → Apple Health
RunGap can sync with a LOT of platforms, but currently does not support TR so you need to use something like Strava as intermediary.
RunGap doesn’t constantly check, sometimes I get impatient and open RunGap, let it sync, then wait for Health on the iPhone to sync to my Watch. Once that happens I get full Move and Stand and Exercise credit just as if it was recorded on the watch.
haha yes, I see what you are getting at here!
In the future we would like to integrate with Apple Health, but this isn’t scheduled to be worked on just yet. I will continue to pass on your interest to the team though!
In the meantime, as @WindWarrior helpfully suggested, RunGap should also work with Strava, if you don’t use a Garmin headunit.
Since I have Roam and Karoo2 head units, I could use the Wahoo ROAM which does sync to Apple Health. That way I can avoid messing with Strava. I use intervals.icu as my data hub, not Strava. Intervals.icu would be another great addition to TR btw. They recently added support for Wahoo. So Rides on TR when recorded on a Wahoo headunit will go to both Apple Health and intervals.icu. Which avoids the whole mess with Strava as a middleman.
I saw the Intervals release notes about directly importing from Wahoo. Have you tried that? I have a Garmin, but a lot of local people ask me for tech help and it seems like a nice addition to Intervals.
@WindWarrior Yes, I just tried it this evening. When using my Wahoo Roam passively for a TR workout on my Wahoo Kickr(v5), it syncs the data to the Wahoo ELEMNT app associated accounts. In my case, it synced the workout to both Apple Health and to Intervals.icu.
I’m a supporter for intervals.icu - highly recommend them.
Would love workout push integration w Apple Health. Any update?
Cough
Oh no. Strava is turning the thumb screws.
I would really like to see TrainerRoad wean itself off of Strava as the primary medium for third-party data access. I find the whole idea of having to use it just to get my data into TR really a pain and not something I’d like to use. Also the fact that the minute you take it away, they require that TR wipes your data is yet another reason why I don’t care to share my data with Strava. @IvyAudrain
Yeah, the writing is on the wall here. In bright neon letters.
I’ve long thought, but been afraid to say outloud, that the one premium feature that Strava could really leverage (at least in the short-term) would be their integration capabilities. Many of us rely on them as an integration hub and many applications would struggle to replace them if that functionality were limited to premium users
I think it kills Strava in the long run to go this route, but if they did it suddenly they could see a bump in subscriptions to support a transaction - either more PE or an IPO.
However, doing it this way, where they trickle out the limits not only gives people (some) time to modify their integration plans but also doesn’t get any bump in subscribers - sort of the worst of both worlds
Doing this in tandem with exempting API calls from / for paid Strava subscribers could work as a way to entice people to pay for use of Strava
Apple health anyone?
I use rungapp that takes a TR workout from Strava back to Apple Health. IIRC I had to “buy” their swagbag ($9.99 per annum) to get that functionality.
Rungap has been working great for me as well. But of course it would have been better not having to go thru a third party app.
Are there any updates on getting apple health integration on the roadmap? Rungap “works” but I hate paying for an extra subscription just for this. Also the user experience is not super great to get workouts into apple health
Fup here… Healthkit will solve the web of connections and apps.
