DIY plan for run + bike, masters athlete

Morning all,

I’m 58 this year, lots of reading/podcasts have suggested I should be prioritising strength and flexibility over cardio.

Due to having A Fib I no longer race, previously did Zwift races & triathlon. I do still play competitive field hockey and enjoy being able to run and cycle, so want to keep both ticking along.

With this in mind I’ve drafted up this rough plan and would be interested in peoples thoughts. Due to the Afib I want to keep volume down, hence no days where I’d do weights and a run or bike.

I’m assuming this wouldn’t fit into any TR plan and I should just use TrainNow and adjust it as required.

I would question the word “prioritising”. Yes, it should be a part of your workout schedule, but you should only prioritize it if that is a goal. If your goal is cardio fitness, then that should be your priority.

As for your aFib, obviously that is something you work with your cardiologist on, as it can be very individual.

Lots of podcasts/info on aging suggests that for life health & longevity, preventing falls in later life etc then strength training is more important than previously thought, hence why I am thinking it bumps up in priority.
