I think there is a market for cheap heavy bikes for trainers. Say a $500 or less that weight 30 pounds but has a good geometry for what you want (road, tt, mtb) etc.
Components dont need to be fancy or top shelf since it really dont matter that much on the trainer.
remove the brakes, even the front wheel can be something simple to hold the bike to the ground…it doesnt need to be a wheel…
I would pay 300 for a tt geometry 40# bike with sora components 10x1

Craigslist! I have approaching 4,000 “miles” on my CL find. A Scott CR1 with 105 for $600. I’m on my 3rd roll of handlebar tape and second chain on it.

I guess for road is easier to find a trainer bike…
