Agreed, in general. Let people wear what they want to wear, ride what they want to ride, and certainly never disparage anyone for their abilities.
I do kind of think the world champ stripes ought to be earned, like I think it’d be a bit tacky to wear a replica Super Bowl championship ring. But, hey, that’s a personal choice. I might have my opinions, but they’re mine and shouldn’t affect anyone else.

Good for whoever can drop money into cycling… Do it sucks to have someone with “less ability” ride a faster bike than you? Maybe. But just drop their ass on race day and let that show that is not the equipment but the rider and the training…
I quite like the stripes on the armband. Kinda understated but there if you know where to look. I haven’t got a jersey with them on but I would probably get one if I saw one on a reasonable kit.
But this isn’t a meme so I had better disappear.
I’ve definitely done this.
In a tri race 2 weekends ago, I got sick with diarrhea and vomiting. Decided to give it a go anyways. 5 miles into my bike off a horrendous swim, Garmin gave me a -9 and I had to do a double take. I had never seen that before. Suffice it to say I ended up with a DNF because I almost blacked out at mile 40. Just slow peddled in from there to T2 and went home.

Well I for one want to thank you so much. I loved Calvin and Hobbs as a Kid. I had a special aunt that bought me all the books. At 52 this kind of brought me to tears in a good way!!!
Team kit - sure, whatever you want to do. If you’re going to choose to wear certain logos be aware that you may supporting of a despot governments, environment destroyers, racists or transphobes.
Championships jerseys - No. You want to wear them, go win them. These are part of the prize of winning the elite race at the elite level. One person for each discipline should be wearing them, this should be respected. It’s akin to wearing a replica gold medal to a park run or a fake NFL championship ring.
