I thought they weren’t allowed to use power meters for this record? Or can they use one and record the data, but just can’t have it displayed in front of them?
If its normal ‘track’ rules you can record but you mustn’t be able to see the head unit - most people have them tucked under the seat.
Like the Golden Age of the Hour:
Obree vs Boardman
Indurain vs Rominger
Of course the UCI had to step in and stop the fun. ![]()
Anyone reckon he’s got a chance of riding on of the GB track team’s Hope/Lotus bikes?
in a recent interview, he does mention that he wants to medal at Tokyo not sure what event though, road or track.
Def road, Probably the TT, other than the hour he’s not ridden track at all.
Victor Campenaerts was around 398 this summer according to the Belgian press. He released his 20min power during an ftp test. It is unclear if the 398 is the 20min power or the ftp itself. A lot of people underestimate campenaerts. He is probably the most aero TT’r.
3-Way One Hour Pursuit…I’d watch it. ![]()
That’s right you can’t and he didn’t have anything attached to the bike for the run, but they will know from the times set in training what his power would have been.
I thought Wiggins actually had a power meter attached and recording data, but he just couldn’t see it…maybe I am confusing his attempt with some else’s.
It is 398 FTP in the aero position. Which is pretty crazy.
I think it was in one of those Sigma vids w/ Matt Stephens where Alex says he has more power in his TT position than in his road position.
No! That’s terrible news.
Ach no. Hopefully it’s a quick recovery.
Sucks! That would have been the only remaining watch-worthy cycling event of the year…
Classic 2020 news, sadly.
Interesting that they say 340W for Campanaerts and ~350W for Dowsett to break the record. That seems way low
. Although, if I think back to riding on the road I guess I could get ~50km/h out of 350W maybe if position was optimised. 350W seems well and truly inside what I would expect him to be capable of maintaining.
It’s at 6000ft so altitude adjusted assuming he is acclimated is equivalent to like 380 at sea level. Power is harder to put out given your more aggressive aero position (relative to a road bike) so he’s also lower than would be his ftp w (assuming it’s quoted on a road bike).
