Accept Adaptations changes its own suggestion

Finished a VO2 workout I rated 8/10 on Zwift and got the adaptations pending preview. In addition to adding a rest day Sunday, the suggestion was to swap a Tuesday anaerobic 8.5 (Thomas) for a 9.1 (Chalone). I clicked accept but the calendar instead showed an anaerobic 7.8 (Black Kaweah) workout on Tuesday. I switched it back to Chalone, so we’ll see. Been happy so far with all the AI adaptations but this will be the final hard week of the training plan and my levels “feel” like its time for an FTP boost. Just wondering why the app is ignoring its own recommendation.

I would have left it and waited to see what it suggested on Tuesday. They change so frequently, that I ignore anything more than a day away.

Hmm, this is a bit strange. Did all of this happen on the app?

Sometimes it’s worth pulling up your calendar on the web to double-check things, as that’s the most accurate and up-to-date place for your TR career. If there’s a discrepancy, it’s likely with app syncing.

I’d agree with @Pbase, though. Leaving things be is likely the best option since manually changing a workout will disallow it to adapt down the road.

I’m looking at your calendar on the web right now, though, and you do have Chalone scheduled for Tuesday. Did you make any other changes since your post?

@eddie Thanks for looking into this. This happened on the web.

Chalone is scheduled because I manually changed it back.

The day before the adaptation, I had moved the endurance workout from Thursday (Thanksgiving) to Wed. Thinking that maybe that’s what caused the AI adaptation to reconsider, after I posted here, I moved the endurance workout back to Thursday. I’ll still be traveling but will wait to move it until Wed.

When you say that you changed it back, how did you do that?

Chalone doesn’t appear to be an alternate or hand-picked workout, so I’m a bit confused there. :face_with_monocle:

Hmmm. I clicked on the Black Kaweah workout and under alternates, chose Chalone. If Chalone is not showing up as an alternate/hand-picked, I don’t know what to say, except maybe the adaptation engine recognizes Chalone as the workout it initially recommended. FWIW this is the first time I’ve ever done anything other than just accept the adaptations.

Weird. I just double-checked, and now it shows as an alternate. :face_with_thermometer:

Moving forward, I’d recommend waiting until the day of the workout to use alternates because if you get too far ahead, you might influence any adaptations we’d suggest to that workout before we get to them.

Once you’ve picked an alternate, we won’t try to adapt that workout, so if you wait until the day of the workout, you can be sure that what’s in place is the best workout for you, and the alternates are good options as well.

Since there were no workouts scheduled between Sun and Tues I felt there was little risk. But I’ll take that advice going forward. Thanks.
