hi i’m in my first TR plan - a general mtb masters plan - im feeling great but what happens when a plan ends? does TR recommend a next steps plan? I choose my own? etc? cheers
Depends on your goals? If you training for an event then I would use the plan builder feature, with the event entered, and follow that?
If you are not training for an event then it’s your choice. There is no harm in repeating the block or trying something new. It just all really depends on what your goals are.
General fitness really, I was wondering if the next plan sort of followed on logically as I’d not set an event date in the current plan.
Theres a general fitness plan or a plan to that effect. That’s the plan builder plan I’m doing.
Nice work getting through your plan! Glad to hear it sounds like you’re seeing the benefits.
As @patricksudol said, what you do next will depend on your goals. I saw that you mentioned not having an event date set at the moment – but do you happen to have any goal events for next year in general? If so, you could start up a new plan with that date as a target.
If you don’t have any events planned, that’s okay, too! You could start up another “short-term” plan to focus on improving another fitness goal you might want to work on. For example, if you just worked on sustained power for a while, maybe you might want to switch things up and work on shorter efforts for this next plan. As also mentioned above, there’s no harm in repeating a similar sort of block, either.
Just remember to keep recovery in mind as you work through your plans. We generally consider a “full cycle” of training to be 6 months or so (about the time it takes to get through the Base, Build, and Specialty Phases of training). So while you may not be at that point right now, it can be good to plan for a break of 1-2 weeks off in the future once you’ve been training consistently for about 6 months.
Hope that helps give you some direction – feel free to let me know if you have any additional questions!
