Red Lake +8 today. Had a few hours this morning skiing with my son but the weather turned on us so came home early and thought why not…
Probably the first workout I’ve considered turning down a few % but I couldn’t let myself do it. Quite a psychological game in my head going on as I kept thinking a few weeks ago this was or was close to VO2max efforts but thoroughly enjoyed it in the end ![]()
Some days you’re the hammer, others you’re the nail. Today I was the nail and I got HAMMERED!
Just the warm up told me that 100% wasn’t an option. No idea why. I’d slept like a log and eaten like a horse the day before.
Dropped it down to 95%, up to 96 and then 97 but I was 8/10 watts off the power at 97 so back to 96 and that’s where I stayed.
Tipping my digital hat to all those who complete this at 100%. #monsters!
Holy toledo. I am no longer sad about my rounding-error ramp test. Really had to play some games with my brain to keep from bailing (just imagine how happy you’ll be when you’ll finish was a winner).
I’m trying to get in the 2015 edition 8DC before my holidays and a return to base training. Today was stage 1. That finishing stage really hurt! Also I know I’ve been off the trainer for a while but the resistance seemed unusually high. Maybe I should have calibrated my PM and done a spin down before hand. I could not get my cadence up and the tempo section felt like a sustained 5-6% grade.
Those crispy PRs ![]()
LOL they are all in the 1:42:30 - 2:00:00 range… Relatively easy gets as I do longer sweet spot work.
Bashful (again) - 3x5x1min @ 125%. Just the right level, no near-death experience, but happy to see it end.
Blew up on Taylor-2 last night, got the first set (barely), first interval of the 2nd set my HR was pegged, I made it 4 intervals in and pulled the plug when both legs started cramping. Fast VO2 work has never been my forte, but this one just hit me hard and didn’t let go.
Clark is scheduled for tonight, hoping for a better result
Matthes +4 in the last few weeks of Mid Volume General Build.
Usually I’m good with Vo2 Max work, but this morning that was not the case. Really had to stay focused on keeping the legs turning over the last minute of each interval of the last set of three. Had to get out of the saddle to change things up the last two intervals (hence the power jump). Didn’t have a ton of carbs last night so that may have been a part of it.

Did Mount Foraker +4 last night and quit less than halfway in. Something was wrong with ERG mode and when it said to push a 110% interval erg put me at %40 and visa versa. Went into resistance mode for a bit and tried it again but the same thing so I quit early.

Add to the fact I felt a bit off with a sore throat and a poor nights sleep I’m not sure it was a bad decision. Good thing is I feel fine today.
Ok welp, I’m ready for another recovery week. The adaptation efficiency of a 1-on/1-off schedule can’t be that much lower than 3/1, right? Right?
