What workout did you do today? (2018/2019)

Alternating build and base seems like a thing people do if they’re not racing, or build and specialty if they are. TR support has an article that might help. Really as long as you’re not doing two builds in a row, you’re probably set.

Cheers for the solid advice - realy appreciated :+1:t3:

I have to say that personally I’ve found General Build to be far more taxing that Short Power. I would definitely consider doing a Base phase BEFORE you attempt another Build.

Taylor -2, dark and early before the sun. Took the first 5 intervals to wake my legs up.

Put Townsend on the schedule for today, absolutely smoked from this weekend. Saturday I rode to a group ride, pulled the group with an AX pace for 50 miles, then rode home for a total of 87mi, 4300ft, 19.9mph avg, 268w NP with my FTP of 290. Sunday did 6 miles of super technical rocky MTB with an 8mi warmup and 8mi cooldown on a flat towpath and one road climb to finish it off. Monday my legs were more sore than they have been all year. Trying to keep the momentum up with hours ridden this week so I can be recovered and ready to smash another 5000ft century on Sunday.

Stanislaus -4 - first step of my 6-week VO2 plan (which will be cut in 2 by 2 weeks of vacation - yeah!). I’m basically doing the sequence Coach Chad suggested, at 3 per week, dropping the easiest one and adding a harder one every week, until I get to Kaiser, my nemesis.

I plan to do one or 2 outdoor easy rides on top each week.

Zwift Academy 2019 Workout #3: 20sec Power Duration

Solo effort followed by 30 minutes of sweetspot to finish the Alpe du Zwift climb.
Couple of easy spins maybe tomorrow followed by 5 days off the bike with a full backpack Hadrian’s wall hike over the extended bank holiday weekend.

Washington +2.

The last time I tried this, my FTP was 3% lower, I had to backpedal in the second interval and quit the workout two minutes into the third.

Hell yeah.

Crossed a TrainerRoad milestone today; my 300th TrainerRoad workout since subscribing almost exactly 2 years ago.

I’m right at 4w/kg these days, 33 y/o, 178cm, 160#, ftp 292. Came into TrainerRoad pretty much off the couch (maybe 1-3 hours a week on the road for a few months without structure prior to subscribing), and pretty much just follow mv plans. I’ve also had two significant breaks in training during those two years. Hoping to make next year my best and maybe do an epic ride series race or a gravel event!

Anyway, can’t say enough about how much I like TR’s plans and podcast. Five stars for both.

Thanks guys!

Was planning on doing Taylor-2, but it got late and I couldn’t get in the headspace for 30/30s, so I swapped Tues/Thurs workouts and did Donner. Just settle in and keep turning the legs, no thought needed

Another solo 125km around Singapore with average temperature of 35°C. Did this last week and over-cooked things a little, so today, I just dialled things back a little.

PS: not sure how TR calculates elevation gain, but it gave me ~2800m of ‘bonus’ elevation vs Garmin and Strava :flushed:

You’d have to be quite creative to get that sort of elevation gain in Singapore.

Freel +1 - 2x5x1min @125%. Not bad (it’s like Bashful but 2 sets instead of 3). The only annoying thing is all the references to “this is a recovery ride”, you sorta want to tell Coach Chad to go recover elsewhere after a while…

Subbed Townsend with Brasstown yesterday, got McAdie +1 tonight, not sure if I can hang

I managed a new PR in the ramp test, albeit only by 1 watt, but I’m still happy with that.

I then figured, since I had just done the ramp test it would be a good opportunity to go out and “just ride” for an hour. Without the need to have structure in my workout I managed to average 22 mph solo for an hour on the roads around my house. (I normally average around 20 mph while doing TR workouts.)

Ramp test.

Up to 275 from 270 after the first half of short power build.

I need to eat better during rest weeks. Kinda lived on pizza and beer the last couple days leading up to the ramp test, then was mildly hungover during the ramp test. Stupid :rage:

Very disciplined now during training blocks…then just lose all discipline when the hard work stops…

Completed Eclipse. This was difficult but manageable. I personally love these long sweet spot intervals, and looking at my sweet spots from a year ago, I’ve improved dramatically. And that’s pretty encouraging. Hopefully I can get some more growth before next year’s racing season.

Baird +2. Confirmed that morning workouts are a most for me. Knocked out some powerlifting in the afternoon.
