We all suddenly have the time to train like pros

You should put on social media about anyone being able to provide you with a meal, there are two nurses living on our street and as a community we are sorting out so their family evening meals and their sandwiches

Luckily my wife stays at home so that sort of stuff is covered. Thanks for thinking of healthcare workers though, none of us have ever experienced anything like this and it’s… quite stressful.

That’s an awesome idea. Thanks! I’ll be suggesting this to essential-service friends/family. :+1:

I’m revisiting this topic cuz it’s now a reality for me, for at least for 9 weeks.

I know from past experience I can handle a lot of only-Z2 – 18-20hrs/week, back-to-back 5hr days. What I don’t know is how I would respond to say 15hrs of Z2 + 4-5hrs of intensity.

This is the sketch thus far:

3x 5hr @ Z2/Endurance
2x 2hr @ Z4/Threshold
1x 1hr @ Z1/Recovery
1x day off

Looking at it, I just noticed that I’m still thinking in terms of ‘week’ instead of more ‘block’ orientated.
Any block training suggestions? :man_shrugging:

Increasing VO2max won’t really be a goal for this block (if it goes full term) so I’m not too concerned about the higher intensity stuff (plus I’m still on medical/performance “lockdown” as it were).

Thanks in advance!

On the trainer… for 5 hours? 3 times a week??? No. Heck no. Not sure if I could get paid enough for that.

I seriously don’t know how the pros can do 25 -30 hour weeks… I’ve done 11 h this week at lower intensity compared to the usual 6-7 and I’m completely toasted… This pandemic better goes by fast, or I will be totally burned out by the end of this.

I am a usual 12 to 14 hour week person, depending on work responsibilities.

Now, I am doing more evening shift work, not nights fortunately, as we are providing medical assistance to the govt here.

With the later working times I am able to do a bit more in a morning then (with my wife working at home). My tally for this week is 17 hours. Feel fine generally.

I have enormous respect for those juggling this with kids and other obligations. Kudos to you all.

Would just say - my “increase” is relatively small. I could not imagine bumping it up to say 25 hours a week all of a sudden. TR really provides quality over quantity, at least I can feel that in my tired legs.

Ha! Nooooo! Long rides will be done outside…solo… :slightly_frowning_face:

Speaking from my tri experience (12-16h weeks) every time I increase volume during base I feel fatigue. This is much less during build with increasing intensity.

the lesson is to increase carefully over a few weeks, at least for me
