Wahoo Tickr longevity

On my second tickr in 4 years and started not reading correctly. I figured I had nothing to lose and opened it up and used contact cleaner inside and out. A few rides since then and working like a charm. I am sure it is sweat infiltrating the unit. The contact cleaner leaked out easily. I know the straps also are issues too. But just throwing out the contact cleaner idea here as something for folks to try.

My second Tickr (gen 2) of the second half of the year is starting to go on the fritz. Just seems like they are losing connection or not reading for minutes at a time, sometimes half the ride is fine while the other is awful.

Always seems to mess up my high intensity ride readings (ramp test specifically), indoor and outdoor on my phone, computer or Garmin. Very frustrating.

Was in the same boat, had 2 of them that had to be RMA:ed, went to Polar! Their strap and way of putting it on is much nicer as well! Feels suuuuper sturdy.

I have a Tickr Run which I have finally retired, seeing issues while running. I have had it for 5 years - most of the issue has been some corrosion on the external contact points. I guess I had one form a good lot. Just got a new Tickr yesterday, hopefully will last just as long.

My 2nd gen Tickr just had both snaps break at the same time after a ride, is the gen 3 strap any better or should i just look at alternatives?

I’ve a Tickr X2 (2nd generation Tickr X) for several months now and I’ve found it to be unreliable in quality. I’ve already had it replaced once by Wahoo. Heart rate sometimes doesn’t get accurately recorded and running dynamics has never consistently worked for me even with calibration. So I’ve kind of given up on it and now use a Polar H10. For running I use a Garmin HRM Pro.

Same thing happened to me. Wahoo replaced the strap. I’ve gone through three units this year so far and I’ll being losing a fourth soon as one of the contacts is peeling off on my strap.

Had this happen after about 1,5y of use. Out of warranty. Contacted Wahoo support with a picture attached and they sent me a new strap within days.

Thanks guys. I got this from a friend who got it as part of a zwift subscription and gave it to me new in box. We will see if Wahoo replace it, I didn’t mention details just sent them a photo for now to see what they’d do!

My first gen Tickr X strap died as well, in addition to some serious connectivity issues which I could never figure out, despite reading through all the support pages Wahoo has. Contacted the support team and they actually sent me out a replacement first gen Tickr X which I subsequently sold and purchased a second gen instead. Connectivity seems to be more stable, and the strap appears to be more comfortable. If you politely push back on the support team they are pretty good, as I was basically fobbed off when I first reached out to them.

I am using some cheap straps and they work a lot better than original whoo. I have a gen 1 and gen 2 and for me gen 1 is way more reliable (so no issues at all since I have replaced the strap).

Hah, I made that mistake recently. My 3+ year old polar stopped working and when I finally investigated I realized the thicker battery had bent the side contact out of the way. Some gentle bending and a proper battery and its working great again.

More on topic, I think my 3yo ticker is dead. It went through a few straps and batteries. A bit disappointed because it was only used indoors and not roughly handled. Oh well…

I have a Tickr that I’ve used for close to 4 years with only battery changes. After each use I gently rinse then immediately dry the unit, and take the strap into the shower with me where I give it a good rinse. It’s important to not stretch the strap between the sensor pads and the snap ends. So far, so good

I’ve had mine for 7 years, I’d say about 5 years of consistent use in that time. I have hadn’t any problems. Just replaced batteries and washed the band when it starts to stink.

For me it’s been the straps that fail. I originally had a Bontrager and the strap failed and they replaced it and the replacement strap failed too. Then I got the tickr from a friend cause he got it as some zwift deal, and the strap broke.

I ended up ordering a replacement strap from Amazon which seems well made and the contacts are different too, and then wahoo sent me a replacement strap (from the Gen3) so now I have two working monitors, I have the Amazon strap and the wahoo strap, and the wahoo and Bontrager sensor. Just for fun before I toss the old ones here’s a pic, top to bottom. Note how the newer ones all use a flatter sensor pad, the Bontrager strap actually failed where the round sensor pad is moulded in

That top one looks identical to my VIIIIVA strap? Excellent quality compared to the tickr.

Yea I’m sure the companies just get from suppliers that share with other companies. It will eventually crack where the pad meets the strap and mine were reading 241bpm or dropping out completely once I started to sweat.

Nooooooooo let me live in denial just a little bit longer :joy:

I think they all delaminate at some point when the glue degrades - will wait for it to fall to bits next week now!

FWIW each of my Bontrager straps lasted a year or so each before coming apart, the wahoo one broke after about 8 months and both of the snaps came off. Considering the replacement straps are $10-15 isn’t bad
