Anyone else playing BG3?

It’s amazing and I love it, I don’t want to over sell it but…

As of this post I’ve got 225 hours in Baldur’s Gate 3 and my youngest (20) and I are playing through Divinity Original Sin 2 (another amazing Larian game). I don’t think I can overstate how much I love the game. It might be my favorite game of all time and that is almost unbelievable as I’ve been gaming for +40 years :older_man:

Combat being turn-based would probably make it a pretty great candidate playing on the trainer but my laptop isn’t up to the task. I tried streaming to the laptop in steam but my nice gaming PC has an ultrawide monitor with an odd resolution and I haven’t spent any time on troubleshooting to figure it out (I’m an IT person that is currently pretty burned out at work and sometimes IT issues at home feel like work.)

Finished it and onto Lies Of P. Both are awesome games

lies of P looks gorgeous, but could not get past the first mini-boss, so it got deleted.

BG 3 is phenomenal, but there is no way I could play this while on the trainer. The voice acting and the writing is topnotch, and you have to pay attention or you’ll miss it.

Yeah, this is the first time there’s been anything that’s felt really on par with the old Black Isle Studios games. Not just in terms of quality (there have definitely been some great games since) but also in terms of capturing a particular feeling of humor and lightheartedness with real dread. No spoilers, but that first Dark Urge plot twist they throw on you is a genuine “holy shit!” moment that made me question so many decisions I’d made and prompted 4th? 5th restart to get things to a place that felt more right.

And as @Duppie606 says, the acting and writing are phenomenal for even the most minor characters (the goblins in the goblin camp are hilarious), and the attention to detail is amazing. I think there are a few thousand fully readable texts in the game? Love letters to and from people you just killed and looted, deep backstory, the Book of Cheesomancy …

I’ve been thinking about ways to make it work for long Zone 2 rides since I’ve got a pretty good gaming computer running my Zwift set up and could use that to run BG3 with Zwift on an iPad, maybe? But that set up feels too busy. I’m debating buying an Xbox Series X while they’re in stock and on sale, and while it would open up a ton of possibilities, it also seems fairly excessive. Maybe re-up TR or TrainerDay for a separate workout player? But then I miss my Zwift XP. Oy.

Excessive is in the eye of the beholder.

We are a couple in our mid fifties that like to play co-op games occasionally. This winter we’re playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint together.

To do so we have 2 Xbox Series x and 2 nice TV’s in our livingroom

So yeah, if you like to play games go ahead and buy that Xbox. I understand.

Yes the first boss was a bit of a tougher entrance requirement. I know I spent more time on that boss then most of the following bosses.

MTG Arena works for me. It is my magic sauce for SS workouts. Also works fine with on/off type vo2max sessions. It is fun to see the interaction between loosing the game and immediate break in middle of challenging workout.

I think it is good workout also for mind. With this i mean, it is simulation of race situation where you have to think while having high pace.

You guys making me intrigued in BG3. I typically avoid turn based combat games so I’ve avoided it. D4 has taken up so much of my time that I have a backlog of games now. TOTK, Spider-Man 2, and I guess BG3.

It really does live up to the hype, at the very least. I think part of what it captures about the old Black Isle games is just in things like dialogue, for example, where the choices aren’t just “evil/good.” They’re frequently “good/snarky/evil/absurd/jackass” or something like that. Unless you’re a barbarian, in which case you get a lot of opportunities to just roar at people in normal conversation to get them to do what you want.

The other thing is, make sure you have Speak with Animals up at all times. The animals are pretty much all hilarious.

Hey, that’s a rad way to make workouts more fun!

If you’re looking for video game recommendations, I’ve got a couple I think you’ll enjoy. One super relaxing game is solitaire. It’s classic and an excellent way to unwind after a long day. You can play it anywhere, whether on your phone or computer, and it helps to clear your mind.
Another fun option is Animal Crossing. It’s all about building your island paradise, making it as cozy as possible. The gameplay is chill, and you can play at your own pace. Plus, it’s great for socializing with friends online.
If you want something more action-packed, give Fortnite a try. Playing with friends is a blast, and the building mechanics add a unique twist to the battle royale genre.

I like to play the Isle Evrima. It is a game about dinos

Unrelated, I do play chess while on the trainer. Usually 15min games where if I have a 2 min interval I can afford to just hit it hard and then play my turn during recovery.

Anybody want to play - add me on chess.com / solarsuplex I’m ~1100 on a good day
