Recommend me a distracting workout player

I’m bored at staring at lines. I don’t feel like watching TV either. I want to experience cycling. I’m trialing Rouvy. I enjoy the distraction but I find the workout player is lacking (only erg mode for workouts), no back button/slider, no target vs current power at a glance (it’s there but in different parts of the screen), no overview of power/hr/cadence vs interval (like tr)

Dual run Rouvy and TR? I use Zwift for entertainment when indoors, but have the TR player control the workout.

You can indievelo for free, either dually running TR or loading custom workouts.

I think I figured out a workaround. I’ll remove my trainer as a controllable from rouvy for workouts and use my roam to set resistance level.

I’m still interested in good distraction though…

You could use indievelo or zwift and do the intervals on the hills in there, like you would do outside.

I like Zwift. Pretty decent workout player. I can make a workout with ZWO Factory in about 60 seconds and import it in. My favorite workout player is TrainerDay but it’ll remind you of TrainerRoad. It just does things a little better. And their computer player you can pull up YouTube videos.

Does TrainerDay have a free version?

I think so? Not sure what is included though.

Edit: Full price is $4 per month so you could always try a month.

How are their workout players? Do they have the ability to switch between erg/resistance, mode rewind/fast forward/ seek

Run the workout on TrainerRoad and use Rouvy for distraction, that’s what I did last winter

Rouvy/FulGaz of a course + watching a race on that course on YouTube.

Sometimes have TR control the trainer for a workout as you’ve already considered.

I used Ironman races and courses, found it pretty good for the long hard rides indoors. Even better were live events so you have others to race that course with you.

Yes. I’m trying out the free version right now to see if I like the look, functionality, etc. It only gives you 20 workouts you can use. But you can search to see all the workouts that are available

Does the free version allow to use their workout creator? Also is there an equivalent of ‘free ride’ for a certain duration?

I guess I will run the workout on my roam, remove my trainer as controllable in rouvy and just use their free form workout. Almost like cycling in the real world and I can still use rouvy to record my ride with left/right balance (I wish wahoo sorted that out though…)

My go-to indoor setup is TR + Zwift. I connect erg mode to TR on my phone for the workout and use Zwift on the laptop to collect route badges and gain XP (I enjoy the gamification of Zwift). When I really need a distraction (typically only in the winter months when I’m on the trainer for longer periods of time), I’ll watch YouTube or stream something alongside Zwift. I have a TV connected to my laptop so there’s enough space to have Zwift in a small window at the top and whatever I’m watching below it on the TV.

Sorry, don’t know about the indievelo workout player, I haven’t used it. But indievelo is currently still free, so you could just try it out.

The workout creator is not available in the free version. You can do a ‘free ride’ with the free trial and either set the watts you want with erg mode or just ride at whatever you want in non erg

IndieVelo workout player is similar to Zwift’s. You can use ERG or you can shift. For longer intervals I’ll jump in with a pacer group to keep things interesting.

What is a roam?
