Using trainer road app with other platforms

Happy new year to all. Sorry if this has been a topic of conversation before. I just signed up to trainer road and look forward to training with it. I have a couple of questions. When using the trainer road app, paired to my KICKR core trainer and using Zwift, is there some sort of erg mode setting or something? I’m pretty good with my power on in terms of hitting my target, but this felt too easy. I will add, I’m using the Zwift cog and virtual shifting. Another question, is there a way to not have the workout from trainer road directly upload to Strava? I typically have my Zwift activity link to Strava. Any information would be appreciated.

Are you trying to use the TR app and Zwift simultaneously?

Yes. I had my workout in TR (didn’t have time to set up a plan to link to Zwift) and Zwift just for the visual/course. Did I miss an option when setting up or when saving my workout in TR to NOT send to Strava or is it automatic?

It sounds like you’d be better served by taking the couple of minutes (or less) that are needed to connect TR and Zwift. Then your TR workouts will automatically be sent to Zwift (and should show in your ‘Next Up’ tile) and you won’t need to run two apps at the same time.

If you don’t setup the TR to connect to Strava it can’t send to Strava.

the reason I asked is you were running TR and Zwift simultaneously is I was wondering if both were trying to control the trainer causing your resistance issues.

I’d just setup the TR connection to Zwift that way your workouts will show up in Zwift.

Hello @Brettf3588  Happy New Year!!

It sounds like you were double pairing the trainer to TR and Zwift, thus having both apps fight for the trainers signals and potentially causing the issues with the workout feeling too easy.

Here are instructions on how to connect TR and Zwift so you can complete your TR Workouts on Zwift’s virtual world: Syncing Zwift with TrainerRoad

Then, here is how to complete TR Workout on Zwift: How to Complete TrainerRoad Workouts in Zwift

And common FAQs: Training in Zwift with TrainerRoad: FAQ

As far as TR>>Strava goes, as @TooManyDogs mentioned, you’ll have to disconnect them.

Another option - you can run the workout in TrainerRoad using the TR App, and have Zwift Set up to run in the background but not control the trainer (Personally, this is what I do)

TrainerRoad always controls the trainer in ERG mode, even if you ride in Zwift at the same time. That is why it can feel easy or flat if your FTP is set a bit high or you are very smooth at holding power. Zwift becomes visual only in that setup, gears and gradients do not matter much, especially with virtual shifting.

To avoid double uploads, disconnect TrainerRoad from Strava and let only Zwift sync. TrainerRoad will still save the workout internally, it just will not push it to Strava. Most people run it this way to keep one clean activity.

with disconnecting TR from Strava, does it still pull the previous workouts that were in there? I road Zwift today and saw my workout but didn’t do it bc I had other plans. So I know it’s linked properly. Next week I’ll do a TR workout in Zwift.
