Turning plan adaptation ON/OFF manually - will it work well?

Training for my first tri, and I’m finding the RED/Yellow days to be pretty off compared to how I’m feeling and what both Intervals.icu and Garmin tell me about readiness/fitness.

Coupled with the fact that I can’t tell TR to ignore an adaptation permanently, it’s getting pretty annoying to have to skip them most times I open the app/site.

So, can I just turn adaptations OFF, until I have a change where I would like it to adapt? For example, if I need to take a couple of days off, or if I add another event to the plan.

I turned off RLGL, maybe that’s all I need. It keeps adaptive training on, and I can listen to my body and use my preferred “readiness” score like Garmin since it knows much more about me than TR does.

I imagine if I deleted an activity because I don’t feel great, then adaptive training will handle that. Also if I feel “yellow” I’ll just switch to an Endurance ride or rest.

Hey @bikeonbikesonbike

That’s correct, turning RLGL off won’t affect Adaptive Training.

Unlike Garmin’s readiness score, our fatigue management system is aimed at preventing long-term fatigue.

Our CEO Nate goes over it here:

A great analogy is the spending analogy. If you decide to complete the scheduled workout, you will have to pay back that loan on your body in the form of rest in the coming days. RLGL shows you when you are taking out that loan and how to pay it back. If you keep on training without paying back the loan via rest, then the loan accumulates and you risk long-term fatigue.

Note: these are at the end-of the-day recommendations, so it’s up to you if you want to accept them or not as you know your body best…or turn them off entirely
