Does anyone have tips for working with AI? I’ve been racing for 15 years and using Trainer Road for 9. I’m very good at assessing my body’s needs but the adaptations keep over-adjusting. For example, I often add volume on rest days by commuting to work. The rides are about an hour, very cruisey and I know after all these years that I can have good workouts the next day. My plan only has about 7 hours a week scheduled but I really prefer to maintain closer to 10 by adding these easy rides in or lengthening some of the endurance days. I’ve done so for years. I know I can handle this volume without compromising my interval days, but AI doesn’t trust me. It constantly yellow boxes my interval days after I add these easy rides, and it adjusts my workouts because of it. I found where I can turn off the automatic updates but it’s still annoying to have the daily alerts telling me to adjust my workouts. I’m at about 4.5 w/kg, I can handle a lot of volume, 10 hours is honestly not as much as I would like but life is a little too busy for more than that. Is there an option to tell AI I’m stronger/more experienced than the default? I don’t want it to go away, I just want it to chill out a little.
Have you put the training approach slider all the way up to aggressive?
I tried that but then it wanted my interval days to be like 2 hours each. I guess i could just adjust those back down. What else does that adjust?
Hey, as far as I know, the slider controls how the system rates whether you need red or yellow days. You should be able to set your max time availability for a ride in the phase (base build or specialty) you are in.
You can turn off the RLGL system
Account > Settings > Adaptive Training
what does the RLGL system do? is that what gives me the training stress warnings?
Hey there,
@JoPage had a good suggestion by adjusting your training approach slider. This will tell Adaptive Training how aggressive you want it to be in terms of prioritizing training stimulus vs. recovery. Check out the Help Center article below for more info on that.
I’d give that a try before completely disabling Red Light Green Light, but that is an option as well.
It’s important to know that RLGL is adaptive and will adjust its recommendations based on your recent training history. That means that if you start to add in volume or intensity to your week, it might be a bit cautious at first, but as it starts to see that you can handle the work you’re doing long-term, it will become less reactive to that amount of stimulus.
Essentially, its job is to ensure that you have a prudent/sustainable workload/ramp rate. Our data shows that athletes who take on too much stress too quickly when ramping into training almost always run into sustainability issues and need to dial things back before too long. RLGL is there to help guide you and make recommendations as to when it might be best to slow things down a bit to ensure that you’re able to keep training hard long-term without any hiccups.
It’s a great tool, and once you have the slider set where you want it, things should work well.
Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions!
I think what I don’t like about it is that it pops up more often than necessary. I’m pretty good at gauging my training stress. So it’s either telling me to take it easy on a day i was already going to take it easy, like I did 4 hours on Sunday because I have monday off, I don’t need the yellow box. Or it’s telling me to take it slow and adjusts my workouts when i’m feeling just fine. Like, yes I rode today, but i did so with tomorrow’s workout in mind. I literally don’t remember the last time I failed a workout, it’s possibly been years. TR has trained me really well to know my signals. I think it’s a great feature, it’s just not one i need, and my ADHD hates seeing the yellow box.
