Training derailed from illness and injury - what now?

I started my winter “season” first week of October and got in to a pretty good rythm which lasted until the week before Christmas even though december was rough with work and “life”…
First week of January I came down with some sort of infection that didn’t quite break out but also didn’t go away.
This lasted until last week with a short break when I thought I was good to go but after 2 workouts realized I wasn’t.
Last week I finally felt ok but Saturday I managed to bang my head pretty bad and I’m now following a concussion rehab protocol.

I’m projecting that I’ll be able to resume normal training in another week, but what do I do now?
My current plan has me do Base until second week of April. After that 8 weeks of speciality with a placeholder “Race” on June 1.
I’m not planning any racing but considering a few Brevets.

What would you do? I’ve lost tons of fitness and missed most of the build block, would I be better served by deleting the current plan and going for more base-build?

Hey there! Sorry to hear about those road blocks you ran into.

Is there anything significant about the placeholder “race” you have marked for June 1? If not, I don’t think there would be any harm in deleting it so you can start fresh.

Ideally, going through the full cycle of Base > Build > Specialty will get your fitness as sharpened as it can be. If you’ve lost a lot of fitness as well from the illness and injury, I think you’ll probably find it best to take a restart from the Base phase. The year is still young, so you have plenty of time to go through that full training cycle!
