That’s my point - You have no basis to criticize it if you don’t load in your volume. It will give you higher volume, you just have to give it the data to support you can do it.
The gym’s power meter can’t be comparable unless by luck it matches up with your power meter.
I can’t vouch for the onboarding 2 years ago.
It seems to work as expected now though ![]()
And the platform is different than it was a couple years ago. Just coming in and saying “Horrible” like you did a couple posts above and showing a screenshot of what looks like the current plan builder is pretty misleading and not close to relevant on the current platform if you didn’t load in any data.
Seriously - either give it a real try, or don’t bother posting that you don’t like it.
Sweet Spot Base high volume burned me out! This platform sucks /s
Like there are things I think TR could do better/communicate better but using a screenshot from 2024 is probably a tiny bit out of date lol.
If you onboard now what does it give you? Assuming you also upload current data of course.
No.
Not much TR can do now about something that happened in 2024 though ![]()
I’m sure if you were to give TR another chance that you could easily get a plan you want.
Sounds like the damage has been done though?
How is what TR did in 2024 relevant? They have changed things significantly recently.
Of course they should, but pointing to 2024 when TR has updated their approach since then is not relevant right?
What happens if you do the same now with current data?
If it still refuses to give longer rides than that’s a problem but pointing to 2024 data does not help with determining how it handles long events currently.
Give it a rest dude.
You came in, called the platform horrible in your first post, posted a picture of plan builder. And it turns out you haven’t tried it recently, didn’t load in any data, and really haven’t even given it a fair shake.
You literally joined this forum today to come in and crap on TR.
I am saying they have significantly updated their software since you used it and claiming that it’s broken using old data is a bit rich.
If you upload current data and still have issues then that is something that needs fixing obviously.
However they have added some options on volume and extending the length of endurance rides recently so maybe that will help.
I think even in 2024 the plan could have been easily tweaked to be honest
That’s a good enough reason for me ![]()
All, let’s please remember our key forum rules here to be excellent to one another, contribute constructively, and challenge ideas (not people).
With that reminder out of the way, I took a look at your calendar from back when you signed up, DoLittlesDad.
That screenshot you posted of your very high TSS averages looks like it was taken from April, and was the week of Sea Otter Fuego XL. Looking back on your calendar, that was around your TSS peak for the year. When you signed up for TrainerRoad and built your plan that December, your volume was much lower (albeit still relatively high), and your weekly TSS average at that time was much lower, around 494.
Our custom plans analyze where you’re at, fitness-wise, and build you from there. High volume athletes are sometimes surprised to see a bit less TSS and volume than they’re used to early on, but that’s because that TSS tends to come in the form of some challenging interval workouts and not all TSS is created equal. If you’re used to a specific volume and TSS from riding mostly unstructured outside, it can be a shock to immediately replicate that indoors.
As others have mentioned, we’ve made some significant improvements to TrainerRoad since you signed up and built your plan. Among them, we’ve added more customization options to plans, specifically aimed at athletes who like to add extra volume through group and outside solo rides into their training. We’ve added Dynamic Endurance, where endurance rides throughout your plan ramp up in duration to as much as 5 hours, depending on your fitness and goal events. And the entire suite of TrainerRoad AI features works more intuitively with all your training, which can be really beneficial when you do a lot of unplanned and additional riding (I can speak from experience here).
We always appreciate constructive criticism and feedback! However, I don’t think it’s fair to assume that things haven’t improved or changed in the last couple of years (we’re constantly improving) and I don’t think that screenshot presents an accurate representation where your volume and TSS were when you built your plan.
It is lower than I’d expect, but is likely a symptom of what I mentioned before: all TSS is not created equal. Since custom plans tend to be weighted towards high-intensity intervals, the initial weeks can sometimes start with a reduction in overall TSS (but increase in time at intensity) for higher-volume athletes.
But like I said, things have changed significantly since then, and I think you’d experience less of a reduction in TSS now if you built a new plan.
You used to have to go into the settings and tell TR that you can actually ride more.
Is there any way when a TR employee comes in and exposes the reality of a big time complainer we can give multiple thumbs up to the post ?

This is absolutely my favourite thing on this forum.
Honestly, I never understand the complaints about lack of volume. It takes a few clicks to increase the volume. So yeah, TR might recommend 6 hours or whatever, but you easily can get a plan of 15 hours with a few clicks. Why are people so afraid of just doing these clicks?
One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that there’s a cohort of people who, having chosen to use a tool such as TR (but this applies to all software, IME), take the view that they’ve outsourced all responsibility to the software and thus never need to really think or make a decision themselves again…
While it’s true that the TR software, like many of the other software tools we use in our day-to-day lives, becomes ever more capable, TR is NOT a full-fat super-premium coaching service, and even if it was, we as individuals are always ultimately responsible for ourselves, and it’s always sensible to be willing to question what a paid advisor (like a human coach) or a software tool suggests, and where it’s judged appropriate to do so to override it with our own choices that better suit our needs.
But some people seem to have a mental block against taking this step, and instead get angry and frustrated rather than make a few simple choices to tweak things to their individual preferences… ![]()
