Looks like Garmin is up again.
Garmin is up and syncing rides.
However, Garmin’s status page currently shows:
Workouts (Limited)
* Workouts can be created in Connect Web and Mobile but are currently not syncing to devices.
* Third party Workouts sent through the Training API will be queued to sync.
Just buy a Wahoo and make your self happy
This thread has totally gone off point .
Can garmin users get there trainer road workout on the garmin without garmin connect or not ? Thanks
I just got headache trying to find out if I could somehow hard wire the workout to my garmin and conversation turned into a compensation claim
since the TR workouts arrive encrypted on Garmin and Garmin has had enough problems decrypting other things, I think it is better if it does not work during this time
No, you can’t export TrainerRoad workouts.
When Garmin Connect was down, it required manually uploading workouts to Garmin via USB cable. Therefore you needed to re-create the TR workout in another tool, like TrainingPeaks, export it (e.g. as a .FIT file), and then upload to the Garmin bike computer (typically via a computer and USB cable).
I’m not a lawyer but have been writing contracts for over 20 years. Personally I’m very comfortable with capturing intervals in Garmin Connect, and that doing that is in compliance with terms c) and e) of Responsible Use and Conduct. Not trying to be ridiculous, but you could argue that writing down the workout on a piece of tape is copying/duplicating/recreating. If TR disagrees they are free to cancel my subscription and refund the unused portion.
sure but I see people make that statement from time to time, and practically speaking to my eye those are “don’t steal from us” provisions and not attempts to stop you from doing workouts. And I’m reviewing a couple of Terms of Service docs right now so in a legal mood
Ugh, two hours doing the final review of updated EULA and TOS and my brain is absolutely numb.
I did my workout today old school outdoors. Target numbers in my head, length of interval in my head, recovery duration in my head and number of Sets in my head. I forgot my brain doesn’t do math at some point in hard intervals. So, was that number 4 or number 5? Do I finish at 30 seconds after or 40. So I just went long on all the work. I want my Garmin to beep at me again. For an old mans sake with exercise induced math reduction bring back Workouts please.
Seems Garmin Connect is partially up. Anyone got outdoor workouts working like they were before Garmin went down?
I need to learn how to use the features in my 530, but how’d workout creation in the garmin go? Is it based on % of FTP, or do you have to specify a power number and adjust it when your FTP increases?
I went from a garmin 705, to a 530. Even on the 705, I didnt use all the features on it, and now with the 530, there’s just so much functionality there that I need to explore. I wish I could just release control of it to TR and have them set it all up … sort of like how Apple stuff just sets itself up.
As of yesterday evening, I couldn’t get workouts to sync from TR or workouts created in GC.
TR embeds specific power targets (in watts) in workouts, based on your TR FTP. If you do a ramp test and get a new FTP, future TR works sent to your head unit will include power targets based on the new FTP. So with an FTP of 250, if it was a sweet spot workout with 90% intervals, you will be set intervals of 225 watts. If you did a TR ramp test and increased your FTP to 300, and then sent the same workout from TR, it would set you a target of 270 watts. You don’t have to adjust anything.
https://www.trainerroad.com/blog/garmin-edge-the-best-head-unit-setup/ has details and instructions on the recommended setup for outside workouts. Personally, I add Lap Power as an additional datafield, but otherwise I really like this setup.
You can see the TR-pushed workouts listed and scheduled in Garmin Connect, but they currently don’t transfer to the head unit when it syncs. Neither do workouts created directly in Garmin Connect.
That’s interesting that it pushes a power to the head unit and not a %FTP. I was wondering how they stop someone signing up for the free month, and transferring the entire base-build-specialty to their garmin, then cancelling the subscription.
So the best I can do, is transfer a month at a time, with the assumption that I’m not doing a ramp test (and changing FTP) more than once a month?
I wonder if you change your FTP and have the same workout again if it downloads a new workout over overnights the old one?
I think it only pushes workouts scheduled a couple of days ahead. I don’t know what happens if you change your FTP, but at worst you would just have to switch the workout to inside then back to outside for a new target to be sent.
Looks like Garmin Workouts is live again. I was able to push my next workout to my Garmin 530 tonight.
