I’m a bit surprised to see such tough rides so close to Leadville (11 and 13 August). This doesn’t look like a taper to me. Am I missing something? My concern is racing with flat legs.
Thoughts?
Have you marked Leadville as an A race? There is no taper for C races and less of a taper for B races.
One point to remember - Taper drops volume, maintains intensity. SST the day after is surprising, but I’m a little more uncertain about the others based on how much volume and training stress you have in the bank.
With that said - Leadville is a long steady state race. I wouldn’t be doing either of those on those two days personally. I do some hard work the Saturday / Sunday before but even that not full hard workouts. The week leading up is mostly easy Z2 / Recovery with a couple short openers.
I thought mine were agressive too, but I followed this last year for my A race and never felt better on a bike on raceday
I posted this on a recent topic. I find TR’s taper too hard, with too much threshold or sweetspot work.My typical approach for a Sunday race is:
It seems like Leadville isn’t actually plugged into your plan somehow.
Are you on a goal-based plan rather than an event-based one? ![]()
I think you need to either build a new event- based plan or delete the Leadville event from your calendar and re-add it.
This should prompt us to ask if you want to change your plan to focus on Leadville, and you need to select yes; otherwise, your plan won’t change.
If you’d like a hand with this, I’d be happy to help. Just say the word. ![]()
Hi Eddie! Yes, if you’re willing to make that change, that would be great.
When I first set up the plan, I selected the type of training I wanted to do (probably based on feedback from here and the podcast). The program asked me about my A and B races (Leadville and SR50, respectively). And I saw it align the base/build/specialty such that it jived with race day.
What did I do wrong?
So if you don’t have a race initially, then adding a race later won’t activate features like adding a proper taper?
Oh boy. I have never thought about that. That is not obvious from the UI at all, I would have expected that adding a race will still work no matter what kind of plan you have.
That seems like unexpected behavior that should be fixed.

This part maybe could have been more clear.
If you already have a plan in place and you add an event to your calendar (within the dates of your current plan), we’ll ask if you want us to adapt your plan to include that event. I’ve seen athletes accidentally click “no,” which then prompts TR to essentially ignore that event.
If you click “yes,” however, we’ll adapt your plan to include that event.
Yep, that has been my experience. When I add a race into my existing plan, it has always asked if I want to adapt the plan or not.
My week of LV has 45 minute easier threshold efforts on Tuesday and Thursday so the OP was right to wonder and question the taper there. Sounds like you’ve got it figured out now though. My day after the race is red and empty as well.
I just updated your plan. Take a look and let me know your thoughts.
I’m not sure what you did wrong there, but it seemed like you had a goal-based plan, though. ![]()
It looks like your endurance rides are a bit longer now (~2 hours). I missed what you had your cap at for those Sunday rides.
If you want those set specifically at 90 minutes, you can edit your plan to reflect that, or just let me know and I’ll make that change. ![]()
Thank you to everyone that helped me confirm there was an issue with the taper. And thank you Eddie for fixing the plan!
See you next month!
Tell us how it went…I wish we had that kind of race in my country.
