I was under the impression that tapers were automatically built into both A and B races? Sure doesn’t seem like there’s much of a taper going into this B-race. Any idea what’s going on?
It doesn’t look like a typical taper, but it really depends on what the weeks prior look like. A taper is usually a reduction in volume, but keeping some decent intensity (often reducing volume for multiple weeks prior to a key event). For a B race, I don’t think TR would incorporate a proper taper like they would for an A race.
My approach to anything besides A races is to train through them. If I know a race is going to be a big effort, I might dial back my Thursday intervals and have the race “replace” that training stress, but most of the time I just treat B/C races like a Saturday group ride.
That will be the highest TSS I will have hit since September of last year, which included a huge single day of 320 miles. I usually land somewhere between 525-650 TSS/week.
If you’re worried about fatigue and the B road race, maybe do the opener the day before the C race instead of the endurance ride, do 2 of the 4 sets of threshold intervals, and halve the 3 hour endurance ride before that? I have very little experience racing, so I’m forcing a bit more of a taper like this for my events this year.
Doubling up a race and openers is happening all over my schedule and that’s gotta be a bug. Surely doing openerson top of a crit isn’t going to get you any more benefit?
There has never been built in tapers for B races. Only the option to add an opener the day before. Normally that one would replace what you had in the calendar, but since you have a C race there you get both.
Nope, that is not a taper week. Normally we have those for A Events as it’s been mentioned.

Thank you. I don’t know where I was under the impression that a taper, of sorts, was also applied to B-races.
