You should only have to enable it once. If you finish a ride with the stats open, they should be open next time you load up a workout. So no need for excess cognitive load on those tough workouts.
@ming the STATS label is so small, it seems the designers are trying to hide it. Which is very odd coming from TR mobile app where its more easily discovered “front and center” (but you have to swipe).
I really like having real-time interval stats available and viewable from 3 feet. Really don’t understand the design choice. Much prefer the TR mobile app and no trouble seeing the interval info.
Excellent improvements!
I see where you’re coming from. It’s kinda tricky because that middle divider between the workout graph and the live stats (time/power/cadence/HR) is adjustable. And the whole window is adjustable. So the amount of real estate we’re playing with is a bit deceptive. I re-added your suggestion to be discussed again (we made them larger already, but it’s worth a revisit).
I use a Desktop and a 55 inch 4K screen with both Zwift and TrainerRoad. It is flawless, however, the only way I got it to work correctly was to use two separate ANT+ dongles and USB extension cables. I have found the Zwift workouts to be lacking and unfocused and unmotivating. Using both apps has been awesome. You minimize TrainerRoad to show as a ribbon on the bottom of the screen with Zwift on top (reduced a little bit to fit) and off you go.
I just used the new desk top app briefly the other day and WOW! Much better! Thank you TR!
Hi,
Loving the new desktop app. Just one request…in minimal mode the interval summary appears over the current interval graphic on the left which is great. Is there any chance of making the text of this a bit bigger as I find a bit on the small side to read.
Thanks
Yes, we are going to improve this. It’s too small right now.
Did the “c” and “w” shortcuts for cooldown/warmup +1min make it into the new release?
(Can’t test right now as I’m on iPad at the moment)
No, we have not added any additional keyboard shortcuts yet. We have plans to implement “C” for calibrate, among others, but I can’t provide a time frame on that.
Some feedback on ver. 2019.23.3.36-Beta Windows version, specifically Minimal Mode. The key numbers of Current Power and Interval Goal Power seemed smaller in size which is opposite of what’s needed for someone who wears glasses and needs to frequently take them off when sweating profusely. What is most important to me are the key metrics shown in the center third of the window – Current Power, Goal Power, Interval Time Remaining, Elapsed Workout Time, Cadence and Heart Rate (thinks that’s all).
Second most useful portion of the minimal window is the left-side graph depicting the entire workout. That’s fine as is for the current size and information conveyed. The graph on the right-side I never look at, ever. That space could be used by the key metrics in the middle third to make them all much bigger and easier to read. I noticed with this version (maybe it’s always been that way, don’t know) that it was possible to toggle the right-side graph with some other numeric statistics. I didn’t look closely at those, but the numbers were even smaller than the key metrics in the middle and not something I could easily read with glasses off.
The only other stat that I care about is the current interval +/- avg power vs goal over the course of the interval. That is something that used to occasionally popup at the end of the interval with some other stats that I didn’t care about. In this latest version I think I saw it pop up in some microscopic, unreadable font size over the left-side graph. If it were possible to just provide that single metric of how the current interval is going vs goal (e.g., +5W, or -20W cumulative) along with the other key metrics in the middle and just take over the entire 2/3 of the minimal window, I’d love it. Another potentially useful thing would be to show the time of day in that section since the minimal window usually gets pushed to the screen bottom over the start bar. Another change I’d consider is to move the interval intensity adjuster from the bottom row to the right edge of the minimal window and put a triangle/arrow above to raise it and one below to lower it (instead of up/down controls on the left and right of the intensity). Make those adjustment buttons nice and big so they are easy to hit with a mouse while in the middle of an interval. I don’t recall if there was anything else displayed on that bottom row besides the workout intensity control, but if that’s moved to the main section then you could eliminate that bottom row if it doesn’t have anything else. Someone was looking to shrink the height of the minimal window, so that’s one possible solution to that.
For those that like the right-side current interval graph window, maybe you could make that whole thing collapsible, and allow us visually challenged folks to push it out of the way in favor of much larger key metric section.
Only other feedback I’d give is that the color indicator that goes from red to green to red if the rider is below, at or above the current goal power is somewhat helpful but seems like it might be enhanced. One thought on how that might be improved would be to replace the color bar with a circle by the current/goal power. It could be bright green if in range, turn blue/purple if too low and then show an arrow at the top indicating to pick up the power, and turn yellow/red if too high with an arrow or stack of arrows growing on the bottom of the circle indicating to back it down some. One arrow for just a bit, then two/three/four etc. animated arrows the more adjustment that is needed. The arrows would provide a visual clue of the power adjustment needed to stay at goal to the users who noted that the color-scheme wasn’t good for color-blind. Just a thought, maybe you’ve got some other UI changes in mind for that.
Thanks much for reading this far and for making the investment to improve the experience for us all. Cheers!
There is another thread for bug reports and whatnot: Bug Reports for the new Desktop App
Yes. They’re smaller, but not that much smaller.
Those numeric statistics you didn’t look closely at when you toggle the right-side graph include the current interval statistics. The top row are: interval power, interval HR, interval cadence.
Agreed! This has been mentioned multiple times. I imagine the designers/developers will eventually have a look at it and make some adjustments.
Maybe I have missed it but during the workout can you turn the text on and off? If so how while I am riding so I dont have to stop. Thanks in advance
Hit the three dots in the upper right and go to settings
Any plan for integration with Spotify? and Spotify based workout?
No plans for that right now.
Oh! This is actually still the current production app. Sorry, it’s a bit confusing because both the Beta and the current app can “coexist” on your computer.
You can re-download the Beta here or at Join the TrainerRoad Beta Program to Get the Newest Features - TrainerRoad.
Once it’s installed it should create a shortcut to the app on your desktop. Make sure you open the one that says TrainerRoad (Beta). Or you can type in ‘TrainerRoad (Beta)’ in the quick search by the start menu.
If you’re having trouble finding it, you can uninstall any versions of the Beta app by using the Add or remove programs
feature in your system settings. Uninstall anything that says TrainerRoad (Beta). We can also delete your app data by searching %localappdata%
in the quick search by the start menu. That should navigate you to app data folders - you can delete any TrainerRoad files. When you reopen the Beta (or current production) app, they’ll be rewritten.
Let me know if any of that isn’t clear or if you need any other help getting things set up.
Thank you!
It is showing up now, in the BETA version.
