The Ready State Mobility Challenge

Anyone else doing Kelly Starrett’s mobility challenge with The Ready State starting 13 Feb?

While it’s not cycling specific, the focus of this one is the deep squat. No weight just get your a$$ to the grass and hang out. It may not help me as a rider it think it will help me as a human. I’ll be posting pics up on IG under old_fart_adventures if you want to see this old dude find his mobility again.

I read Kelly’s book “ready to run” a few years ago and he talked a bit about ankle flexibility, which was an issue for me. I started doing more “hanging out” in the deep squat and its been great. Also try to get plenty of couch stretch as often as possible, but my psoaz has been screaming since Ive been doing much more sitting at the computer than work on my feet the last year.

Psoas is a monster. It does so much and is a tough one to work on. I spend some time in knee down lunges and some smashing with a tool. Mine still needs more attention. I’m using the challenge to kick start my mobility work, again. Supple Leopard is a great tool if you like his books.

I read Ready to Run a few years and started attempting the couch stretch every couple of days. I couldn’t get anywhere near at first but over time it became easier and now i can hold the position for the couple of minutes recommended. It made such a difference to how I felt when i ran and sorted out the knee pain i was experiencing. I’m struggling with the deep squats and have to hold onto something. Look forward to hearing how you get on!
