Taper week plan

I’m in taper week for a 70.3 triathlon. The plan from TrainerRoad has me doing a 2hr run 5days out and a hard ride the day before the race. Surely this isn’t correct?

Impossible to know without knowing your usually weekly volume and history. This looks like a pretty standard taper week to me, particularly the opener. 1-2 hours with a few efforts around threshold. Just cut the run volume down but keep the intensity up so you don’t feel flat.

There is at least room to disagree! TR thinks that is correct…but I don’t think that’s the correct taper for me…and maybe you don’t think it’s the correct taper for you, either.

Tapers can be individual in my experience so maybe that’s part of it. Plus, TR has screwed up my tapers before so whenever I see something like that that’s always the first thought I have. I would cut that day-before solo ride down by 66% or just not do it at all. Just do a shakedown ride.

But I know what works for me…and, as I said: tapers vary from individual to individual.

Thanks Brennus and Big Sushi. I’d prefer to err on the side of caution so have cut back the volume and maintained the intensity
Cheers

Hey @Gobba,

Sorry, I’m just getting to this one! :downcast_face_with_sweat:

This certainly looks off. I’m glad you decided to adjust things on your own.

That 90-minute ride on Saturday should only be ~30 minutes.

I’ll see if I can get things sorted out before then, though!
