I have an event coming up in a couple of weeks that will fall at the end of build phase for me. Does anyone have any experience changing the rest week to a taper week? I have heard of people doing a mini taper, not sure how to do that though, any experience on that would be appreciated as well.

I would look at the specialty plans, pick one with workouts similar to those in your build plan and just swap out your rest week for week 8 of the specialty.
That way you’ll use a properly planned taper which stresses similar systems to your build plan.
