Sprint training in RRR Specialty Plan?

Hi all,

I have just commenced an 8 week rolling road race speciality phase after completing HVSS and HV road race build phases with pretty good compliance… Looking at the specialty phase, there are lots of VO2/attack workouts with some threshold and sweetspot sessions for good measure, but no sprint workouts that I can. see…

Sprinting to the finish (max 15-30s efforts) is a weakspot for me and I am keen to improve in this area… I think that including a session once per week consisting of repeated wingates (i.e. 4-6 repeats of 30s all-out sprinting followed by 2-4mins recovery) will work wonders for me and should also assist with VO2 and maximal sprint power and recoveries…

My questions are: 1) Why doesn’t the speciality phase include sprinting (or more anaerobic sessions)? and 2) If I swap out a VO2 session and replace it with the wingate session described above am I sabortaging myself?

Thanks.
