Specialty 70.3 training plan vs specific race 70.3 training plan

Debating on having trainer road schedule a generic specialty 70.3 training plan for the boise 70.3 July 27, 2025 or have trainer road schedule a training plan now for boise 70.3. I did do a base 12 training plan on the bike then a build 70.3, 8 week plan that I will be finishing after this week 5-5-25–5-11-25.
Which one would be better ?
TIA.

You’ve got enough time between now and your race. It might not be sustainable to ride Build/Specialty phases from now until then, so I’d recommend using Plan Builder to build out an entire plan.

If you need to make any adjustments to fit your needs, I can help with that!

Let me know if that works for you, and I can take a look once you have a plan in place.

When I did the training plan for the specific 70.3 boise, it did a base / build and 2 week specialty phase and 2 week taper. Sounds about right? Thinking medium volume?
I’ll set it up and add it started 5/12/35 and see what you think of it! Thanks!

I added the high volume boise 70.3 date specific? How does that look? And would that be too much ?

It’s definitely an increase in training stimulus for you.

The bike volume alone is close to the total of what you’ve been doing since late February.

Medium volume might be a better fit. :man_shrugging:

What are your first thoughts?

I like the high volume because of the longer rides.
If it’s too much, would be okay to skip a day , how does that work?

It’s totally your call!

Just listen to the little cues that your body is sending you and adapt accordingly. :upside_down_face:

Hmmm , hard to figure out what plan to do!!

On the mid plan, if you are scheduled for an hour and half ride , could you go outside for 3 hours? would that adapt for that?

@eddiegrinwald are customized triathlon plans (like the cycling plans) on the roadmap?

@nicolelisa36, you could use Workout Alternates to pick a workout that’s longer than what’s prescribed if you’d like. That ensures that you’re still following the structure of a workout that follows the discipline of your plan for the duration of your ride. :+1:

We do want to get those out at some point! I don’t have a current ETA, though.. :face_without_mouth:

I made a custom plan and a specialty plan. If I do the specialty plan I have 3 weeks before it starts to get the full 8 weeks speciality training. If I do the custom, I have a 4 weeks before base/ build and 2 week specialty. Is the 2 weeks speciality training okay?

I’d say that 8 weeks of specialty is often more than you need, and since you recently wrapped up two base phases, I think the plan that’s currently in place, starting with a nice, long build phase, followed by a quick base, build, and specialty, is a good option.

I’m usually more in favor of custom plans anyway, and it seems like the better option here. :+1:
