Should I change my training plan when spring starts?

Hi,

I have training plan focused on incresing ftp. Currently base phase. Probably, when spring arrives, I will be in speciality phase. But when spring starts, I would like to do big volume, and do proper base training. What should I do then? Change my training plan during speciality phase and start a new plan with base phase, then build, then speciality? Or maybe just add big Z2 into speciality?

By the way, both base phase and speciality phase are build around 1 SS / 1 treshold. Isn’t it a bit wierd? How in speciality I should not do a single vo2 workout for 6 weeks? (maybe I will increse ftp in build phase, which has 1 vo2 / 1 treshold). Obviously, SS / treshold in speciality have higher levels, but still, the structure is exactly the same. In light of this, perhaps, I should just treat it as base phase in spring, and just add big Z2 rides on top of that.

Hey @Karol_Lenart

I would stick with what the plan calls for. You do not need to restart Base in spring to get aerobic gains, or manually stack a lot of extra Z2 on top of Specialty.

Instead, a great way to increase volume is by using the Check Volume Feature or making your endurance rides longer:

Every TrainerRoad training plan has been designed around what’s known as traditional periodization. Traditional periodization divides your season into distinct phases with the purpose of dedicating each phase to specific goals. By following a logical pattern, each phase ultimately leads to a specific set of adaptations upon which achieving peak fitness is hinged.

Here is more info on what each phase is meant for:
