The spread on the ramp test “ftp” result is rather wide. I think I posted an image showing this up thread.
Have you verified either result with a workout like 2x20? I would expect the “ai” ftp to be more in the ballpark than a ramp test if given sufficient data but it’s not a bad idea to confirm if you have doubts.
I think now that I have 3 weeks of TR easy workouts on my healed foot TR is trying to see exactly where I’m at. Maybe it’s trying to set my FTP . Yesterday I was training stress is high recommended endurance. Did that. Today I get a 8.5 anaerobic - Thomas . I’m at 1.1 on anaerobic level. This is going to kill me.
I paused my subscription, not cycling or power meter. I had 3 years of rides including indoor workouts. I was still doing TR workouts, but ‘offline’ - so when i rejoined, it was all imported to TR.
I dont believe the ai detection is any good. They wont say how it works, im betting it has as much to do with user engagement and positive feedback as anything else.
The ai is fine once you are into a training plan because once its dialed, it doesnt move much and is easy to estimate.
no i didnt verify with 2x20 because i can only do those outside and if super motivated. But i’ve used the TR ramp since it came out more or less so I dont believe ‘verifying’ it with anything else serves a purpose in terms of determining my ability to do the workouts (TR FTP is more like fake threshold power- nothing to do with what you can do for an hour, rather a number that lets them create workouts for you - which is still a big benefit!)
Sounds like you don’t believe in the process. So why did you return with all of that negativity? I imagine it’s not helping your mental state while working out.
Sure I am answering post workout survey, but I only tried one workout at my suggested ftp because it was ridiculously high and it was obvious to reduce it. I am not going to do a bunch of workouts at a wacked FTP just to train the model.
I dont see your point in using the 2x20 tests. IMO that is something close to a real FTP test, the TR ramp is a Fake Threshold Protocol and (for me) I will always score higher using this version so there is no point in comparing the results from 2 different protocols. Unless maybe its a high level athlete where the FTP is a number you can actually do for an hour.
My guess is 99% of TR athletes cannot hold their ftp number for 30mins nevermind an hour
Its a good training tool.
What i dont believe in is that their Fake Threshold protocol is giving a number you can hold for an hour or even close to that.
What i also dont believe is their ai hope for the best estimates.
Its a great product, you have to figure out the number to set your ftp at on your own - using their ramp test is fine.
