Yeah I know about the erg toggle at the bottom, never tried the resistance since I started using a smart trainer.
Maybe give it a try and see if you like it better. I do but its a bit like marmite ![]()
I will do…I think it will be ok in the lower zones but not sure about intervals or v02 sessions
That looks a lot like signal dropout/interference. Are your pedals paired to the trainer, or are they paired to TR which then controls the trainer? In my case, I use ANT+ with an ANT+ dongle on my laptop. The dongle is on a 75cm USB extension so it dangles below the desk to help give it a clear line to the trainer, PM, etc…and get it away from the RF noise of the computer.
Both my trainer and pedals are paired to Trainer Road, I have used this set up for years and it’s only started doing it.
I think I have something similar happen on my Wattbike very recently.
And I’ve done hundreds of rides with a similar setup (Wattbike and iPad) so I don’t think it’s anything to do with me?
- Have you recently started opening your windows or moved the trainer to a sunnier part of your house? When I had a dropout pattern like that, the culprit turned out to be sunlight.
- If you live with someone else who also uses the trainer, ask them to not use any trainer-connected apps while you are riding. Even elsewhere in the house. I’ve accidentally caused and received interference in this fashion.
There are some moments where I know what has caused the dips, but the circled area is where I don’t know what has caused it.
I had a similar situation on a previous ride.
Hi Leah,
No none of those factors are relevant to me…I did receive a reply from Elite and I now have a test protocol to perform a.d report the results back to them.
I will be doing it tomorrow and hopefully this will identify the problem.
I have an Elite Suito trainer and today I got instructions to perform a test protocol and report the results back to them.
I’m just getting back to this one @Brian_Nicholson1.
Let me know how things go with your test from Elite. ![]()
Hi Eddie,
Still having issues and the test with Elite does not work as the My E Trainer software does not work correctly, it shows more watt output than the watts i am working to when I have the favero pedals connected. I then tried a test without them connected and only the trainer , but then no watts resistance was applied.
Today I tried using the trainer with Trainer Road without the pedals connected, initially I was in the middle of my cassette and the power read higher than prescribed, once i moved to the 25t ring after a few seconds at the warm up phase you can see it tracks the warm up pretty good with no random watt decrease fluctuations, however when my first main segment started it showed watts in excess of 300watts but the actual effort felt like the watts prescribed, once again no random weather decrease fluctuations, but showing higher watts than my actual which does not accurately represent what I done.
I then reset the workout and connected the favero pedals, the watts were spot on throughout but the random watt decrease fluctuations started again, this is extremely frustrating as it’s affecting my overall workout data.
Also when I am out on the road with my Wahoo Elenmt Bolt and Favero pedals all is good with the correct watts and effort.
Like I said before the only variation since the years I have used this equipment and set-up is the firmware update I done , is there any way to reset to prove this is not the issue ?
I am needing accurate workouts as I am currently training for an event and would appreciate getting to the bottom of this issue.
You can see the data in the two brutal workouts I done today.
Thanks
Brian
Hey @Brian_Nicholson1,
It sounds like the issue is with your Elite trainer..
What did Elite have to say about the results from your test?
Yeah I am 100%sure it is…. unfortunately they are not being very helpful so far….when I connect it to trainer road it shows watts much higher than the effort I am putting out which effects my training data…when I connect my pedals is when I get the random watt reductions.
I am now waiting on a reply after my last workout showing the graph from TR .
Cheers, I will let you know whenever I get feedback.
I’m sorry to hear that they haven’t been super helpful. ![]()
Hopefully, they can help you get into a good place before long.
Stay in touch with what you find!
Cheers Eddie,
Will do
Hi Eddie,
Still no feedback yet….so today i tried a resistance workout without my favero pedals connected to TR….i settled into the workout and at the end I turned on my wahoo computer which my pedals were connected to and it displayed 50% watt output….you can see from the graph in the last set I adjusted the resistance to read the watts in TR at 144 but on TR it reads approx double…do you have any idea about this ? cheers
I’m guessing that there was some signal interference happening when you turned on your Wahoo. I wouldn’t recommend connecting your power source to two different devices for this reason. What was your goal in doing so?
I had a similar issue during my last workout. I had to replace the battery of my power meter (I was using power match).
Hi Eddie,
I was just curious to see if it recorded the same watt output…once I done a workout recently without my pedals connected but the watts TR showed from my Trainer were well in excess of the actual power I was putting out.
